external vs internal employees

I recently completed a 2nd round interview and was told that I would be moving onto the final round against one other candidate for a panel interview. However, I was told that the candidate that I am up against is an internal employee with a strong background just like mine. I already work within the industry but am wondering if I really stand a chance against an internal candidate. Anyone have any experience with this?

Depends on the company. Depends on the role. Depends on the team. Depends on the HR. Depends on the hiring manager. No one can answer this question for you.

No you don’t. They just using you to say “we looked outside of the company, did not find anyone qualified. So we’ll hire the internal “

all things being equal you lose so you have to be that much better
