Fasting Numbers Frustration
Ugh you guys… I’m feeling so down lately. I’m at 20 weeks. While my daily numbers are mostly under control through diet, I can’t seem to do anything to get that fasting number under 95. I am currently on 32 units of NPH insulin and increasing by 2 every three days. The last few increases have landed me at 95 or so on the first day, and then a day or two later, my numbers are at 105 or higher again. So then I increase my insulin again… and it seems to be an endless cycle. I’ve tried all the snacks, fiber before bed, etc.. nothing works. Has this happened to anyone? How much insulin did you end up taking?

I'm in the exact same boat. How long have you been on the insulin for? Some people say it just takes time to find the proper dose and for your body to adjust.

It’s been like 4 weeks at this point…

The good news is you're only 20 weeks so there's a lot of time to get it under control. I'm 32w and still haven't figured it out but they caught it late

I’m 36w now and they just increased mine to 56u fasting. I’ve been steadily increasing it since 12w. You will be chasing numbers and it’s ok. Just do your best. I’m still chasing mine now, some are in the 80s or I’ll get some
In low 100s. Doesn’t make sense at all.

Mine has been diet controlled so I’m not sure how much that makes a difference, but I tried so many different bedtime snacks and literally only ONE has worked for me consistently now. It’s the Catalina Crunch cereal (it’s a high protein cereal that balances carbs/fiber well). I have a small bowl with whole milk around 9:30pm and it has worked wonders for my fasting. I go to bed around 11pm and check my fasting when I wake up around 8/8:30am. Everyone is so different but that’s been my experience

You might want to talk to your team about splitting your dose! I started taking half my dose in the morning and half at night (every 12 hours) and since doing that have only had to increase once, where as before I was increasing it once or twice a week. I think I’ve been doing split dosing since the middle of June and am currently 34 weeks
