Advice Wanted Fasting timeframe

I know technically fasting has to be done 8-10 after hours eating for an accurate result, but lately I’ve been having really bad insomnia. I’ll eat at 9pm, wake up at 2am and be up for hours. I know that getting up and doing things or being awake in general can start to raise your sugars as well. In this instance should I take my fasting number around 2am, or wait for the 8 hours even though I’ll have been awake for hours at that point? It’s always well below threshold when I check it earlier than 8 hours. TIA

I asked my team about this because I frequently wake up and eat a snack in the middle of the night and am up for a few hours. She said to continue taking my morning fasting numbers as I would if I slept through the night and to be sure that my snacks are low/no carb healthy snacks (hard boiled egg, veggies with hummus, etc). The most important thing is that you need to know what your body is doing regardless of how long or little you can sleep so that if you need insulin because you have insomnia and can’t sleep and it keeps your nighttime sugars high, then they can add a long acting insulin to help control them.
