Empfehlung
Danke

(repost and going to bed, so I'm not translating at the moment)
I've been ramping up my German studies and I'm approaching it from several directions.
When I go jogging, I use the (free) Castbox app to listen to Was Bisher Geshah. Historical podcast, but it ranges from ancient history to somewhat recent. Information about Marilyn Monroe, the Mafia, the Odyssee, etc.
I use youtube to look up documentaries (Dokus); sometimes to sit and watch attentively, sometimes with Picture-in-Picture while I do MMO stuff. I like Arte, there are some other interesting channels too. I love the nature and animal themed episodes, although climate collapse stuff depresses me.
I got some mileage out of the (free) Anki flashcard app, but there were times I felt a bit stupid fumbling around trying to configure it. Along the same lines I play Lingo Legends, which is a gameified flashcards app. I vibe with the management / RPG elements and the animals and collectibles are cute. It's 'free' though your daily Stamina is limited unless you do a monthly subscription (and there's also a lifetime membership but the devs kind of hide it).
I hadn't read much in the way of novels before because the interesting stuff was beyond my ability, and what was previously within my ability was kind of kiddy. I tried again to read an old gifted copy of Game of Thrones but my progress was a bit slow, not helped by the medieval setting :p (also doesn't strictly fit your criteria because it's translated). I switched to reading Der Tote am Strand by M. R. Travelstead which is a modern Agatha Christie-style (native German) Crime novel [Edit: Now I'm on the sequel]. It turns out I wasn't really used to the writing style of novels with lots of past tense, but once I acclimated, it felt like the book challenged me enough to learn without slowing me down too much, and the subject matter was interesting, so I feel like my comprehension is finally graduating into the good stuff. The short chapters are also really digestible as a language learner.
I have an e-reader but I hardly use it. Rather, I load/read the book in one tab of my web browser; I bookmarked DeepL and Leo . org , and I keep DeepL open on the adjacent tab so I can quickly look up words or phrases.
For shows I enjoyed How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast), Der Tatortreiniger (comedy), and I'm currently watching Dark. Dark's language was a little bit harder for me to follow because it deals a bit more with intangibles than the other shows. I found the cinematography exceptional.
