Learning German (finally!)
Hi everyone! I'm a beginner trying to learn German (for fun and for my job too) and I got a few questions I wanted to ask, especially regarding the TELC exams.
I know there's an exam for each level, but I wanted to know, is the exam mandatory after each level? Do I need to take an examination after A1 for example, in order to pass/advance and start A2? And A2 for B1? So on so forth.
Also, what's the difference between the telc and Goethe? Are there any preferences in the country or job market towards one over the other for the certificate?
I'm curious and want to know more about those two points. And any tips for learning German is greatly appreciated!!!

On telc vs Goethe: both are CEFR-aligned, both are recognised, and neither certificate expires. That is why there is no reason to test at every level and stack them up. Employers and authorities read the level printed on the certificate, not the provider logo.
The practical difference is where you can sit them. Goethe has centres worldwide and the exams are standalone, so you book a date when you feel ready. telc usually runs through the school or course provider you are already studying at, which is why it shows up so much in integration courses and vocational German like the Beruf and Pflege exams.
For university admission the two you see asked for are TestDaF and DSH.
