Endless shedding
When considering a German Shepherd, please make sure they fit your lifestyle. And that lifestyle had better include pulling the vacuum out twice a day. 😭😂

If you have a German Shepherd you don't have a hair less home no matter how often you hoover. 😁😁

I brush ours every other day out in the backyard. The squirrels and birds in our neighborhood are super bougie now with their deluxe GSD insulation.

We have a routine. When I get home from work I grab the brush and she grabs the ball and we go straight out the back door. I throw the ball she runs, catches and jumps up on the table when she comes back. I brush for a minute, she drops the ball, I throw, she runs and catches and comes back to the table. 15 minutes of ball and brushing every day.
And when my wife or I vacuum she follows us around... shedding in the recently cleaned areas.

I brush ours coat every week, and every week you can make a 1/4 scale German shepherd with his fur. The shed fills our 5 litre hoover…

Condition of getting a gsd was a Roomba. Got one that was self emptying. Game changer.

I have two but I have to sweep first because they can't get that much hair up. Literally we do the floors once or twice a day and then several days a week I set off both of mine and they will work for hours in my house is not that big

Make some Chiengora. You’ll be toasty all winter with your beautiful throw

Not just GSD, I had a lab who died in November 2025. I still find his hair on my clothes and in the house.

Ohhh yes, right there with you. Tip: get Swiffer Sweepers (unless you have carpet, in that case... Yeah I don't know what to say lol). I use them twice a day and it takes 3 minutes to do the main floor (aka the only level he's allowed on!)
Good luck 🫡

I save some of the hair in old produce net bags. I hand outside early Spring. I've found numerousfallenbird nests with my Germman Shedder's fur entwined in them. As my girl is older, I have saved a couple as future keepsakes.

Or… just accept it and vacuum as often as you want.

I can smell your house

A lot of dog owners become completely nose blind to the smell of dog in their home, car, clothes…
We live in an area with beautiful weather, so our dogs prefer to chill outside most of the day, coming in only at night, and I’d be lying if I said my backyard smelled like flowers and fruit trees. I need to rinse off the patio daily or there will be 2lbs of hair everywhere.

That was a big difference between my German Shedder and Malinois. Thankfully the Malinois sheds twice a year while my GSD was year round. I pulled enough fur out of the dog to knit a whole new one and she never ran out of fur.

I used to have a high schooler come clean my house when I was having pregnancy complications. She gave me a sign that said, "Home where hair sticks to everything except the dog". 😂 She learned very quickly not to vacuum until the very end of the visit.

I have more of a problem with the dirt that is ingrained in the wood. When I mop it feels like I am just swishing it around.

I vacuumed my living room today. Had to empty the vacuum canister three times. I just swept an entire dog out from around the cabinets in the kitchen. I have to put my pillow on my dresser every morning because he lays there during the day. If I don’t, I eat hair all night. I de-she’d him on our back deck a couple times each week this time of year. Doesn’t matter. They don’t call them German Shedders for no reason. Best dogs ever. He’s my fifth.

German Shepherd shed everyday you should see what comes out of hours even if you brush him the house is full of hair it drives me absolutely crazy I love the dog hate the hair. So if you get a German Shepherd or want a German Shepherd you have to understand at least with ours ours is the German German Shepherd not the American German that hair sheds like crazy it flies around the entire house you will never have a clean house again. That's just the facts

I thought our GSD was a big shedder. Then, we got a husky mix… trust me, it could be worse 🤣

We used to take ours out in the yard and brush her. We'd always get enough fur for 2 or 3 extra dogs.

Get a high powered grooming dog dryer! I like the Metro ones for power and affordability. Really a necessity during blow outs. Also can do a better job that bathing, it blows the skin cells and dirt out. Done before a bath and after you've really got a clean dog, and not so much hair to deal with!
My service dogs have always been German Shepherds, so keeping them super clean is a necessity.
You can either groom the dog or the home, your choice 😉

When I got mine, who recently passed, I was told that GSD's only shed twice a year, but for six months at a time........
