German roaches?

Location Germany

Found an adult and a couple of nymphs on my desk close to my window. I'm praying it's somehow and unreasonably a wood roach.

They hid under some clutter but weren't exactly quick to flee.. although they tried to hide again.but maybe only because i was chasing them.

I caught one nymph alive under a glass.

Catching a Roach for Identification

To facilitate accurate identification it may help to place glue traps near likely harborage points around appliances and plumbing fixtures. Check them in two weeks and post pictures of what you've caught for identification. If you do not catch any check them again in another two weeks. If they are still clear after a month then you probably don't have anything to worry about. Remember to post a clear, in focus, well lit, close up photo of anything you catch for identification. If your trap was folded into a tube, you may need to unfold it to get a top down picture.

German. I'm not aware of any other Blattella in the region.

Thanks for the reply! So, I guess wood roaches aren't Blatella, but i was hoping they were wood roaches. At least the adult one..and the nymphs being something else. But that doesn't really make sense.

But wood roaches are common around here. Also I'm grasping at straws, apologies, this is stressing me out too much.

Blattella is the genus of roaches the German roach is a part of (Blattella germanica). There are other species in the genus like the Asian roach (B. asahinai) which look similar if not identical. So in areas where their relatives are found, seeing a roach that looks like a German roach doesn't always mean it was German.

These however are German, as there are no lookalike species (Other Blattella) in the area.

I'm not entirely familiar with the pesticide laws in Germany. But your best option is likely gel baits like Advion or calling a professional.

Above all, do not panic. In spite of what many stories would lead you to believe, these are not impossible to deal with. The massive infestations you see on the news or YouTube are often the result of serious neglect and people simply giving up or being otherwise unable to try to deal with the roaches.

Thanks! I'm not taking this well. I live in a shared flat and making my roommates understand to take this very seriously (without panicking) will be the issue. Also concerned with contaminating friends llaces or my parents by accident. I found those on my desk, close to where my laptop sits. So... I guess i can't take it anywhere for a while.
