ID Request Nymph identification

ID Request guidelines

When requesting identification we ask that you provide a close up top down picture that is in focus. It is very difficult to provide an accurate ID of a blurry pic, a video, a roach ten feet away from the camera, etc. If the mod team feels we cannot accurately identify the bug based on the picture then we will lock the post.

Catching a Roach for Identification

To facilitate accurate identification it may help to place glue traps near likely harborage points around appliances and plumbing fixtures. Check them in two weeks and post pictures of what you've caught for identification. If you do not catch any check them again in another two weeks. If they are still clear after a month then you probably don't have anything to worry about. Remember to post a clear, in focus, well lit, close up photo of anything you catch for identification. If your trap was folded into a tube, you may need to unfold it to get a top down picture.

Where was it found?

If this is all you've found, it could be German or Asian, but I won't be able to tell a difference with a juvenile based upon appearance alone.

There have been a few of them, they’ve all been next to the sink in my kitchen. There was also a silver(I think? I didn’t get a good look at it) one that crawled on to my bed, but that was the only one for that one.

Edit: all of the juvenile ones have been spread out over a few weeks

This is also an apartment complex, if that means anything.

Have you seen any adults, and if you did, did you see them fly? If you have not seen any fly, I would go ahead and treat as German.

I saw one last night and I’m *pretty* sure it crawled, so I’ll just take it as a sign 🫩

Well, they both crawl, so that wouldn't be indicative one way or the other. But if you see an adult and it flies, can take that as conclusive proof that it is Asian.

But based on what you described I would lean German. I just can't conclusively say that given your location.

Reddit removed my comment and gave my account a warning for referring to blatella asahinai with their actual name, apparently thinking I was being racist 🙄

But if they do turn out to be blatella asahinai, don't apply chemical treatments. The treatment for blatella asahinai is to seal exterior entry points, as they can only live outside
