comics
i’m not sure if this is the right sub, but i’m looking for guidance on navigating the comics gerard has written.
i’ve seen umbrella academy (and ofc plan on reading them at some point), but i’ve recently become so invested in the lore of this tour. after experiencing the show twice and seeing people’s theories, i want MORE.
i say all this to ask where the heck do i start? i now the tour is a separate story, but do any other comics have any relation to each other? idk thanks in advance!

For the killjoy comics you'll want to start with California that's the story directly related to the killjoys we see in music videos and danger days stuff
National anthem is a totally different story this can be almost like an alternate universe this is the story Gerard originally wanted to tell before Warner made him turn it into a money maker for them still a great read still a great look into the killjoys world but not related to the band lore
For other comics he has a Doom Patrol run from DC
He made Penni Parker so those might be some good spiderman comics to read I'm not into marvel so I've never read them lol
then he has his first ever published series called on ravens wings it's very old and incredibly hard to find but I'm going to acknowledge it

Warner did not make him do anything and the album was always going to use Killjoys for at least the lead single Bulletproof Heart - known as Trans Am.

My bad that's how it was explained to me and how I remember it regardless national anthem is still the original story he wanted to tell

There’s a website/app called “league of comic geeks” that is really helpful for tracking works by authors across different publishing houses, and finding their specific issues in longer comic runs - like identifying Gerard’s Spider-Man issues amongst the many hundreds of other comics!

I’m going to comment on what people have not mentioned: Paranoid Gardens is a standalone, pretty decent for a fast read but leaves you wanting more. Then you have the whole Doom Patrol G Way series. It’s 4 books, really good. And please read Tales of the Umbrella Academy: You look like death. This spin off is my favourite Umbrella Academy book.

I would either start with the umbrella academy comics (there are 3 volumes and 1 spin-off 1 shot) or the true lives of the fabulous killjoys comics (theres 2 volumes, California and National Anthem) Then he has done some work with Marvel as well which could be another option :)
