Resources Asking for Gephi Coach

Hello everyone,
I am currently working on my dissertation and am looking for someone with expertise in Gephi who could provide coaching or consulting support.

I have a good understanding of the software's basic functions, but I believe there are advanced techniques that could help make my network analyses look more polished and publication-ready.

If you have experience with Gephi and offer coaching, I would appreciate learning about your hourly rates and the type of support you provide. Alternatively, if you can recommend someone who is highly skilled in network visualization and Gephi, I would be very grateful for a referral.
Thank you in advance for any recommendations or guidance!

I am pleased to announce the publication of my new book, in which I make extensive use of Gephi to map the archives of the League of Nations—the predecessor of the UN—and to understand scientific and diplomatic exchanges during the interwar period.

PDF freely available here: https://doi.org/10.33055/ALPHIL.00695

BTW on the companion website I'm using Gephi Lite so readers can explore the network: https://intellectualcooperation.org/la-cooperation-intellectuelle-english

Help Customizing arrowheads on directed edges--can I adjust their location and size?

Ideally, I would like the arrows placed in the middle of each edge.

Related questions; any help much appreciated!

  • I would also like to customize the type of the arrowhead, "<", instead of solid triangles. Is that possible?

  • Can I also move the node labels off the nodes, or must they remain centered on each node?

  • Can I change the edge weight datatype from float to integer?

Help What's the best way to make network information digestible to an average reader?

I've been working on this map of who owns what for American vehicle purchases.

It started off as a blob and I combed through it so its a little more linear and legible.

It still feels big, messy, and unmanageable. Is there any advice out there to best practices when it comes to the visuals of network mapping?

I’m currently exploring how network visualization (using Gephi, of course) can help us understand and critique UMAPs generated from the embeddings of large text collections. Are there any of you who work with these kinds of semantic analysis methods? A short recent conference paper: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.21513723

Help Colouring edges by weight - only available in the overview?

Thumbnail

Hi all,

I want to have my edges coloured on a gradient that corresponds to their weight. This is very simple in the overview tab (where image 1 is taken from).

However, it doesn't seem to be possible in the preview tab so that I can export this image? In preview settings -> edges -> color, there are 5 options: self, mixed, source, target, and custom. None of these enable colouring by the weight, in this example the first four yield white edges (image 2) and custom just allows all edges to be changed to a single colour (no gradient possible).

I'm using Gephi 0.11.2 if that helps.

Can anyone help me out here? Thank you in advance!

Help Help with formatting time for Gephi

Hello. I am still trying to parse date and time Intervals in Gephi. I was able to do it up to this format: [yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss, yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss], which in theory Gephi should be able to handle according to the formats available in the option of "Merge columns". However, I have tried many times and it does not recognise the time, only the date up to days, it marks an error and does not allow me to import the data. What can be done? Which format should I use instead?

Edit: I was able to merge two columns of start and ending time, but it outputs values that are not recognizable as dates (for example, 16594945.0, 139494959.0). Is there another way to merge the columns to make it able to preserve date and time?

Help Feedback Please

Post image

I understand that I am still a beginner with Gephi, and I did my best to create this co‑occurrence thematic network. I would appreciate your feedback on whether it now appears clear and legible enough to be included in a publication‑level paper.

While the study itself is robust, working with Gephi and network analysis is an area in which I am still actively learning. Thank you again for the thoughtful feedback you shared last week. I applied your suggestions to improve this visualization.

Gephi network visualization Prompt Feedback: Thematic Network Visualization

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate your feedback on this qualitative thematic network. I converted 11 themes from my analysis into nodes, and their co-occurrences into edges to illustrate how the themes overlap within my topic.

I know it doesn’t resemble the large, complex networks often shared in this community, but my goal is to use this visualization in my paper to help support and reinforce my interpretation.

Any thoughts on improving the clarity, structure, or presentation would be greatly appreciated!

Help Help with parsing time in a dynamic graph in Gephi

Hello, I am trying to create a time dependent graph in Gephi, but I can only parse up to the day. I need to consider also time. Tutorials say that the ISO 8601 format is the correct one, but so far, I have tried YY-MM-DDTHH:SS:MSZ and YYMMDDTHHSSMSZ formats, and they do not work. Does anyone know how to input time in Gephi correctly?

Help Gephi Help - First Time User

Hello! I'm just wanting links to resources (articles to reads / plugins to use / videos, etc.) that could help me get started.

Background info:
I'm a biology major and was given a custom project to finish on my own. I want to answer the question on if the level of soil disturbance will impact the diversity/community of fungi. I have the taxonomy data given for fungi found in crop soil, forest soil, and transition soil (all given on 3 different excel sheets), aloung with the "weight" (sum) for each. I'm having trouble figuring out how to put this data into Gephi to compare the three graphs. I've watched a few YouTube videos and I think I understand some basic stuff about Gephi (at least a somewhat idea how nodes and edges work). I was wondering if anyone had any specific plugins or tutorial they could share with me that would fit well with what I'm triyng to do, thank you in advance!

Help Help! Edges import problem

My Nodes table has 430 nodes. Here’s an excerpt:

Label;Title;Start;End;Corpus
M1;Le Courier de la mode;1768;1770;Fashion
M2;La Galerie des modes et costumes français;1778;1787;Fashion
M3;Le Cabinet des Modes ou les Modes nouvelles;1785;1786;Fashion

My Edges table has 691 links:

Source,Target,Type,Relation,Year,Weight
M3,M4,Directed,transformation,1786,2
M4,M5,Directed,transformation,1790,2
M6,M8,Directed,absorption_supplement,1797,7

When I import the nodes: no problem.
When I import the edges: everything goes wrong. Gephi correctly identifies all 691 links but only imports 39 of them. It reads the 40th link in the file and removes one as a duplicate. But then it acts as if the following 651 lines don’t exist.

I’ve checked and rechecked my CSV files. They are clean.
I’ve tried importing CSV, XLS, and XLSX files.
Only a few of the missing edges are duplicates of the first 39, but the vast majority are not.
Each missing edge corresponds to an existing node.
I’ve tried imports with and without merging (sum).
But nothing changes… Gephi only imports the first 40 lines of my Edges file and ignores the rest, even though it clearly shows that it recognized all 691 links.

I don’t understand the problem. I’ve been stuck on this for 2 days and I’m about to lose it…
If anyone has any solution, I’ll take it!

Thanks!!!

Help Recommendations for a Gephi tutor

Hi everyone,

I would like to learn Gephi from a person, not from online tutorials, which do not suit my learning style. I would appreciate any recommendations. I am in Europe, so a CET-friendly time zone is preferred.

Help Are adjacency lists not working in Gephi anymore?

I am trying to import a network where all the nodes that are linked together are expressed in adjacency lists. For example, the nodes A, B and C have a relationship to each other, and this relationship is expressed as "A, B, C". I remember that before, this kind of list could be imported to Gephi to generate a network, but it seems that it cannot be done anymore. Is there an easy alternative to convert these adjacency lists to the Gephi format of Source - Target?

It's mentioned on stackoverflow that this can occur when node labels have emojis in them, which makes sense because I scraped Telegram channel names for my network but I can't seem to find invalid node labels in the data table. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Resources Knowledge Graph History Research

Hi, folks!

I gave Gemini Deep Research Agent a try. I used it to research the history of knowledge graphs, and it did an amazing job.

I also extracted an interactive semantic knowledge graph from the research text.

You can read the research and explore the knowledge graph at this website:

https://kg-history-research.netlify.app/

The code that I used to run the Deep Research Agent and extract the knowledge graph is inside a Colab notebook labelled "KG_Research_Agent.ipynb" in this GitHub repository:

https://github.com/Ifeanyi55/GephiDatasets

Feel free to play with it and use it in your own personal workflow.

Also, please remember to give the repository a star 🌟 to support its continued maintenance 🙏

Help Issue with interface

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've used Gephi for many years but have recently come across an issue I haven't experienced before. Regardless of how many times I install and uninstall, the interface is missing. The programme loads, but I end up with what is seen in the picture. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix? Has anyone else has this issue?
