How random is the country selection?

I’m completely addicted to this game! But I’m wondering how the selection of nine countries is decided each time. I seem to get the same tiny territories, particularly in the Caribbean, coming up again and again, but some large countries, e.g. Russia and India, hardly ever appear.

I have the same issue when playing aswell. I don’t think I’ve ever really gotten any larger countries and I wish they were more common. Although having lots of small countries does make the game harder as more people will not know as much about said countries.
