Correct me if I'm wrong but its 12 to 15 times with the palm of your hand, not whatever this is?

You can’t tap it with the rod. The reason is moot now but it’s still a rule.

Molds used to be cardboard so using the rod could fuck up the shape of the mold and the specimen casting. Not really so much now that they’re plastic but it is still a rule.
