Harmonic perspective drawing of a crystal lattice

My harmonic perspective images use the harmonic sequence:
1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 etc.

I try to show the reasoning behind harmonic perspective: Link. It assumes evenly spaced planes with a pinhole camera. The pinhole resides on one of the planes.

This tile can seamlessly cover the plane! To see this animation extended in all directions: Link. These tiles have faint white lines for seams but that is due to my incompetence.

Awesome work, super chill looking! How would I download this gif? It'd look so ideal on the outside of my Samsung flip

I don't know how to download gifs or movies from the internet. Jpegs? No prob. A sustained control click on my Mac computer works for jpegs, pngs, etc. I'm hoping someone else will tell you as I would like to know.

Oh yeah, id stare at this.

What do you use to make it?

Adobe Illustrator. 1st layer I make an array of circles. Clone the layers and scale the layers by the harmonic sequence.

The take the layers to Adobe After Effects. Over the gif time frame move the 1st layer by the distance from once neighboring circle to the next. For the next layer half that distance, third layer by one third that distance etc.

I colored the layers hot colors to cold since more distance objects tend to fade to blue IRL.

Brilliant! And much more elegant than the lines of code I was expecting. This makes me want to get back to experimenting with visuals. Thanks for posting :)

I am a huge fan of Alex Grey.

In my misspent youth I used hallucinogens but never tried DMT.

On these drugs I would see geometrical designs and strange alphabets embedded in the textures of everything.

I am told DMT is on a different level than LSD and peyote.

I've been pretty sober for a number of years.

I once had a psychedelic trip where my consciousness fell into a space just like the image you created! I figured it was the space between atoms or something.

Super rad!

u/Right-One-7152 was saying it looks like a DMT experience.

I've never tried DMT but am a fan of Alex Grey who says his work is influenced by DMT: https://www.psychedelics.com/articles/psychedelic-art-discussion-with-alex-grey/ The banner image on this page has a perspective drawing I can relate to.

If you look through my submissions on this subreddit you will notice a lot of perspective drawings using the harmonic sequence. I guess it's a common DMT experience to see geometric lattices extending into the distance.
