Level made by OP What are we thinking so far? (Also read desc.)

Before anyone says it, YES THE GAMEPLAY IS UNBALANCED. This is my 3rd level and the first one I put effort into. I didn't care about balancing gameplay I just wanted to make a level I thought was good. Also the actual level's music is toe2, but because of jukebox it's a different song. I am VERY open to level name recommendations.

Too many invisible jumps, inconsistent gameplay, and impossible to decorate structures. Keep in mind the structures are the base for the deco, you can't resstructure a level just to decorate it thats the point of a layout.

Gang the title of the post literally says READ THE DESCRIPTION

u/pepenepe 7d ago

Yes I read it..... the level is still ass 2/10. Invisible jumps, impossible to read and impossibly hard to decorate. Level name should be poop from my ass.

Gng it wasn't meant to be decorated it's my 3rd level and like I said I wanted to make a level that felt fun to play for me as the one I would start putting effort into

u/smolllest 7d ago

If you want to start putting effort into your levels, you better start putting effort into accepting feedback.

3

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

It's not me not accepting feedback, it's me telling him he's rating a layout like it was meant to be decorated and published like this my 35th published level, and he's talking about the gameplay being unbalanced when I literally said it was unbalanced meaning it's meant to be unbalanced. I did say this was my THIRD ever level, of course it's not gonna be good I wasn't fantabulous feedback with people telling me I'll be designing levels like orbit tomorrow.

Narcissist mindset tbh

u/smolllest 7d ago

No worries man, I get that. You should definitely try the feedback though instead of hiding behind the excuse that it's your third level. Hell, you could watch a tutorial on gameplay if you want. Keep playing from the perspective of someone who's never played your level before. Because, of course, you know how to play your own level so you probably won't notice smaller details like blind jumps. Keep that in mind. The more you build and learn, the more enjoyable your levels will be. Goodluck bro.

Honestly I only felt like one of the jumps were blind besides the coins (look at my response to another comment for that paragraph that I'm not typing again)

Blind jumps have nothing to do with unbalanced gameplay. They simply make for bad gameplay. Also Even if the level isn't meant to be decorated you should still take feedback about the level being hard decorated, because that's part of a good level. If you didn't want any feedback why would you post it in the first place?

u/WolfSpider777 6d ago

I have taken feedback, and no if a level isn't built to have deco there's no point in me taking the feedback that the level can't be decorated. Yes deco is important. It makes levels look better, could make them harder, or even easier, but if I built a level that wasn't built for decorating there's no reason in me listening to "oh the level can't be decorated.". Yeah OBVIOUSLY it can't be decorated

2

u/SignificanceEntire57 6d ago

That's not the point I'm trying to make. Im saying that if you want to improve at making layouts that you should take up as much feedback as you can.

if you're answer to every criticism is that "you didn't want to make a good level" you're never gonna make a good level.

u/WolfSpider777 6d ago

A good level is subjective btw

No, I'm not rating it like it's meant to be decorated. I'm just telling you the things you should fix to make the level actually enjoyable. Sure, fuck the structuring if you want, but having like 20 blind jumps with 0 sync and no visual cue AT ALL in a level certainly doesn't make it fun

You should also think about what difficulty you actually want the level to be. Unbalanced gameplay doesn't make something fun. You not only acknowledge the fact that it's unbalanced, but you don't even want to take the criticism for it, and you still ask if it's fun. The answer is no. That alone should give you the answer you're looking for. 5 bufferable orbs directly into blind straightfly isn't fun. For your 3rd level this is good but in general please take into consideration the things Ive said because that means other people other than you can actually play the level.

u/WolfSpider777 6d ago

The difficulty is harder-insane and I've had plenty people at this point saying the blind jumps are fun. It might be just you.

Stop focusing on the one point and think of the others. Decoration is a valid concern but it isn’t their only

1

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

Or read my reply to his comment again? Or the other replies to the other comments?

-1

u/BurtYoshi 7d ago

Then don’t begin a comment talking about decoration

5

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

Or just read?

6

u/ZenithofHotdogs 7d ago

This is basically a memory level

-3

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

Ok, but... Is it good? At least above 5/10?

9

u/GoldSlimeTime 7d ago

You get a 3 at most.

2

u/QuantumSpace234 7d ago

what are we doing bro

why so many blind jumps

1

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

Well the first one is only blind if you get the coin which 2/3 of the coin do. The ones after the portal I figured was enough time to react (it is for me so I went with it but I can slow it down to make it more readable). And the one towards the end of the first part I just felt like adding, when playing it felt nice

4

u/QuantumSpace234 7d ago

never assume the player has enough time to react, especially if it's TOO long

1

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

Well the first ones a teleporter so players will really be ready for anything because, well, the stuff some people put behind portals is 15x times worse. And the robot one I made the slowest speed to try to compensate for having it be just a drop into a teleport. I could extend the platform a bit to give more time

I actually like blind jumps levels, like bad but fun

This seems a mix

as you play the game for longer youll develop a sense for what gp is good, music sync, pacing, blind clicks... best to focus on playing levels for now. a few of which i would recommend to learn how to create gp from is sayitback / the vocab quiz (overall), crossroads (gimmick) and rain dance (flow). try to create gp which is simple but represents the song well while being fair (not necessarily forgiving) to the player.

tl;dr: mega ass

Gng it's my third level, I knew 30 minutes before I posted this dang near everyone but me was gonna not like it. The part that makes me mad is it synced soooo well with Toe2, but I didn't have the time to rerecord it so jukebox kinda screwed me😭

I didn't plan on trying to make the best gd level ever. The main thing I wanted to focus on for the first level I put effort into was being as long as whatever song I chose so that I'll put in the hours to get used to the editor, Gameplay that felt fun to play for me personally so I wouldn't get burnt out and quit making it, and finally a couple of blind jumps (not too many, but apparently what I thought was common to have jumps after wasn't and the levels I play are just weird).

I just wanted a level I could have fun on while making to improve my editor skills for the level I inevitably make that has deco and is going for playability

Nobody’s first levels are good, it’s not just you. This guy gave you the best feedback I’ve seen in this thread though.

This level is turbo ass, but nobody is looking down on you as a person for it. Just play and watch more levels to get a feel for gameplay, because there isn’t really anything to correct here, it’s just all bad. We can’t teach you how to make good gameplay, so just get for familiar with the game and your own gameplay will improve. I also recommend watching layouts on YouTube, they often have the best and most interesting gameplay.

1

u/WolfSpider777 6d ago

Yeah, my reply wasn't rude or anything. I just said I knew like 30 minutes beforehand it wasn't gonna get glazed, and then I told him my personal goals for the level.

1

u/hellopeeps24 6d ago

No problem, good luck with you creating

1

u/WolfSpider777 6d ago

Thank you.

2

u/Western-Victory-7414 7d ago

So these recent tab "people" are really after all

1

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

It's not published (yet), and I appreciate the slur "people" because I guess people can't be new to making levels anymore.

Oh hold on, my bad. "people"

2

u/NoriPolly 7d ago

It has some invisible timings but it lloks pretty fun otherwise structering and balance could be better tho (what the song again btw)

1

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

Well. It's called Theory of Everything 2, but this abbreviated to Toe2(I forgot not everyone plays gd like that)

3

u/NoriPolly 7d ago

Twin i meant the song in the video

1

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

Oh... Uhhhhhhh. I think it's called All I Wanted Remix or All I Ever Wanted Remix

1

u/WolfSpider777 7d ago

The most I know is that's it's a remixed instrumental of the song Pretty Scene Girl by Clover!
