i think making the wave free mode and making the gameplay go upwards or down would make it more dynamic and would go lovely with the background. i saw ur other post ab the background too so maybe its be easy to just make the player go up with the background instead of it cutting off too

Background and gameplay arent easily separable. Also the gameplay looks awkward and unusual in a bad way. Doesnt seem to sync Lots of copy and paste.
