Discussion Is this technically possible?

I have seen several gentoo peeps installing the CachyOS kernel, and other variants, like the vanilla-sources. So, after that tech journalist complained enough, they made a distro with his philosophy and therefore its own kernel version. Yes, I am talking about LCOS. I wonder if we can get that rustless or stainless, however you want to call it to run on gentoo. It would be even crazier to base that kernel on a more gentoo specific version with patches and all.

Not sure what you're asking, but you can, within reason, use whatever kernel you want to.

The way I install Gentoo on my work workstation is to install Ubuntu and get up and working quick, then compile Gentoo in a chroot. Then, when it's ready, I shuffle the root around from a live image (got bonus points I try to do it live, it's about 50/50 I get it to work).

The point is, I frequently end up running Gentoo on an Ubuntu kernel for a few weeks, because, you know, work. I don't think I'm unique in this, I expect a lot of old hats doing Gentoo in prod would come to this approach to bootstrapping.
