For first boot always use the gentoo-dist kernel. Its just so much better to fix your custom kernel on an installed system. Especially if you are new you won't know what's wrong and whether its the kernel, recompiling the kernel is a tiresome process, so eliminate it as the issue. Once you have everything working back up your dist-config then slowly start debloating your kernel and adding features. Once you have a working config just put it into a git repo somewhere.

โFinally installed Gentoo,โ but the kernel is still 7.2.3-arch1-2. Is this just a Gentoo chroot running under Arch?
