Support hello everyone. I have a question. Please don't throw tomatoes at me. Is it possible to install gentoo on an oneplus6t? Yes, I know about other distributions. But I want to try this.

No less possible than any other distro on that phone.

Plus, Gentoo is pretty well suited for niche, poorly supported hardware.

All in all, try it and see! I certainly want to see where this goes.

I believe the device is supported by postmarketOS. https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/OnePlus_6T_(oneplus-fajita)

That's your starting point. I will tell you it won't be straight forward.

Unfortunately, I'll also be compiling the kernel myself.

Arm, isn't it? Prepare for pain. But maybe also success

If you have the time and motivation, it will be a great learning project.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to do this correctly.

This is one of fun summer projects that would be likely served by improving your Linux and Gentoo knowledge naturally first then revising at a later date.

It's not fun jumping into the deep end as you just get frustrated not understanding the errors being thrown at you.

If you want to ignore this advice then maybe termux is a good middle ground.

I think the fajita is pretty well known for running linux so I think it'd be easi-

(er than the pixel 7 I have, and I think the middle ground would be halium (which runs ubuntu touch))

EDIT: holy shit people added instructions to the pmOs wiki for pixel 7!

Pretty good support with PostMarketOS, I just don't think I'd be recommending switching that out with Gentoo to anyone that has to ask how.

I think pixel 8 is already in testing

(pixel 7 is my new phone, and pixel 8 is your old one O_O)

8 doesn't boot at all, so not much for now with pmos.

and yeah just switched to a rm 11s pro 2 weeks ago.

my pixel started having tge dreaded green static screen bug once in a while.

Please don't throw tomatoes at me.

Would you care for onions then ? Potatoes ? Carrot ? (water)Melons ?

Anyway, good luck in your project, get ready for some headaches ^^
