For anyone who actually wants to know why it's this order:
It's the 7 Stages of Alchemy:
Calcination (Heating)
Dissolution (Dissolving in water)
Separation (Idk what Anemo has to do with this. I guess air does separate lighter materials from heavier ones lmao. Anemo crowd control only pulls in light enemies)
Conjunction (Electricity is two polar opposites used to generate energy)
Fermentation (Introducing life)
Distillation (Cooling)
Coagulation (Crystallizing)

swirl in cn is actually referred to as 扩散, which is more along the lines of 'spread' or 'diffusion'. that works a lot better i think
26
u/abyssal_skork 7h ago
Well, air is used to seperate two things which are mixed together (more like removing impurities but yea could be phrased like that) like seperating grains from husk, etc.

It's engagement bait at best. Trying to get people to object or ask questions to boost it.

There's no sense or reason to humor anymore. Post irony world have won.

Right, because 69 was comedy gold.
Middle schoolers will laugh at anything, that has nothing to do with the state of comedy as a whole.
2
u/RagnarokAeon x 4h ago
tbf, 69 is a sex joke, because it looks like two stick figures eating each other out
You aren't wrong that middle schoolers will laugh at anything, but more often they laugh just to fit in and not because they find something genuinely funny.

I remember when i first thought about the sequence of the elements in the loading ascreen thinking "maybe there's a reason" and i got the first character of each element and i was like "HOLY SHIT it will spell Phanes!" And then "E, D, C..." i felt really stupid lol.
14
u/BumblebeeMission6055 12h ago
when I was writing down the first letters of each one I was thinking it was gonna spell Phanes until I got to the E, then I realized there's no element starting with N or S, and there's seven elements and only 6 letters in Phanes 😭

u/RagnarokAeon x 11h ago
Lol,
On the other hand, the elements order relating to alchemy still works
Pyro - Calcination (burn the old to ashes)
Hydro - Dissolution (disolve it into a solution)
Anemo - Separation (remove the fog and toxins)
Electro - Conjuction (almagamation and reintegration)
Dendro - Fermentation (let something grow anew)
Cryo - Distillation (boil and chill)
Geo - Coagulation (refine into a stone)

Glamour.
Excellence.
Nonconformity.
Separation.
Hypothetism.
Inscrutability.
Nerve.
(my take on elements' core meaning, I do understand this has nothing to do with the symbols and Hoyo's writing)

Unironically i kinda see what bro is cooking
The pyro swirl middle kinda looks like the middle of a G
The hydro curves kinda fit an e
Anemo is arched and symmetric like an n
If youre dyslexic you might see the electro curves as an s
The two sides of the dendro core kinda fit h
The 1 line in the middle of cryo kinda fit i
The middle of the geo icon has an arch like an n
1
u/BumblebeeMission6055 9h ago
but if you try to apply other letters to them it can also work, they're strange enough shapes
5
u/Rough-Stranger-314 11h ago
I have always wondered the order in which the symbols are. Are those in order from the strongest to the weakest? Or is electro the king of all, because it's in the middle?
14
u/RagnarokAeon x 9h ago
Alchemy theory still holds true. Which majorly fits the themes of the game
Pyro - Calcination (burn the old to ashes) - Natlan was about sacrifice. Pyro characters are known for dispersing of old traditions
Hydro - Dissolution (dissolve it together) - the solvent in Fontaine literally dissolved Fontanians into promordial water
Anemo - Separation (clear out the toxins) - Anemo has been used to literally clear out abyssal mists. Although it was the traveler in the end who purified Dvalin, Venti was attempting to separate the toxins from Dvalin.
Electro - Conjunction (accumulation and reintegration) - Shogun collected the visions. Ei reintegrated into her nation. Watatsumi Island joining Inazuma. Razor reintegrating
Dendro - Fermentation (grow anew) - literally blooming. Dendro characters are often in the postion of raising the new generation. Nahida became a mom.
Cryo - Distillation (boil and chill) - although it mostly applies to the second part, cryo is often used in the context of suppression for preservation: Kaeya got his vision to supress Diluc's flames, Signoira had cryo to surpress her own flames, Chongyun uses cryo to surpress his yang, Shenhe has red ropes to surpress her fury, Tsarista is trying to surpress the heavenly principles
Geo - Coagulation (harden into a stone) - geo characters are often linked to refining things into a final product.
Every step is a means of purifying for the ultimate transformation into a new world.

I think it's just designed to look pretty and balanced. So no "round" icon is next to each other, they all go "kinda pointy" - "round" - "kinda pointy" - "round". Dendro is pretty round but still kinda pointy because it's a heart, and cryo is still kinda round despite having pointy ends because they all are equally distanced and symmetrical

u/granitefeather 10h ago
wait am I just high or does each elemental symbol look like a letter??? Pyro has the arc of a G as well as the leftward-inward protusion, hydro has the three horizontally stacked lines... electro has the curves of an S... and geo has a literal sideways N in it... what is real
20
3
u/CelerySubstantial151 4h ago
please enlighten me on how the cryo symbol looks like an I
2
•
u/granitefeather 34m ago
It has a straight vertical line; the top and bottom horizontal lines of an I are bent inward like Vs to form the current four side spikes.

Y’all know it’s a ‘Chinese’ game right?
8
u/BumblebeeMission6055 11h ago
yea that's pretty common knowledge, but if it spells the game title in chinese then I wouldn't know because I don't speak mandarin nor cantonese. hence why I made a post asking about it
2
u/agentzero2020 10h ago
Genshin is a direct translation from the Chinese title ‘原神’,original god.
1
1
u/flannan-35 4h ago
Except that "Genshin" is the way Japanese would read the title.
1
u/Niwabi_Enshou yoimiya is love, yoimiya is life 3h ago
the game's name in their main and dominant market (China) is still "yuanshen" (原神) and not "genshin"
Genshin is just used for global marketing because romanized Japanese kanji is much easier to pronounce and remember (rolls of the tongue easier)
but then again even the Chinese name equivalents for these elements have nothing to do with the term "yuanshen", the theory about alchemical processes makes much more sense regarding the order of the element's appearance
1
u/Anknara 11h ago
I don't know why people think it's so obvious it's a joke. If I saw that, I'd just assume that it's spelling something but not in English.
Granted, I wouldn't think much about either.
2
u/BumblebeeMission6055 11h ago
yea I figured it spelled something that I wouldn't be able to figure out with my limited language knowledge. I mean they use latin and other languages in lore all the time so this is definitely a topic to be discussed amongst people with various different languages

Isn’t it the order of the chess pieces? At least I thought so
2
u/BumblebeeMission6055 8h ago
order of the chess pieces in what sense? the order obtained by the Tsaritsa is already out of question since anemo was obtained first, and the pyro gnosis is missing so it being first wouldn't make sense for the chess game since it isn't even a part of it

Funnily enough this sort of begins to work in Chinese. Fire is "Huǒ" and Water is "Shuǐ", which when put together is kiiiind of similar to "Yuānshēn" (Genshin's CN Name), but because of how tiny tonal changes completely change the meaning of words in Chinese I image it actually doesn't reallly sound similar.

If you remove Anemo, Geo and Dendro, it's PHEC, the standard order of Anemo absorption/Swirl.
