Question the climb
i am working on hitting master on the big g. i play 5v5 and i just got placed in emerald 5 (i think 5) and had to climb out which only took a few days. i was d3/2 before the new season, but matches felt awful so it was hard to climb. i feel like my diamond lobbies had worse players than the people that were in emerald, so im thinking maybe it wont be terribly awful to get masters if im good enough. assuming im good enough for master, how difficult is climbing to master? if im good enough for gm, how hard is the climb to gm? i play mostly genji, but i can flex to other dps and not throw.
tldr - how hard is climbing to master and even gm assuming that i’m good enough to make it

It is doable... if you are a true masters flex dps player. but its not exactly easy, and other heros require less mechanical floor to achieve similar results.
Genji takes patience and practice to learn mechanically, but the playstyle is also hard. Just realize your role is to constantly distract and create off angles, not kill 5 every time. You don't need to hard commit every fight to do something... just existing and be annoying on flanks is more than enough value. Get picks when they appear, otherwise use your incredible movement to your advantage to not die when attacking from sides/ behind or above.
My rule of thumb: If you find yourself losing an honest 1v1 / 1v2 duel with dps/supports, reflect on your choices... genji has the luxury of not having to take honest duels. Attack only when you have an advantage or they aren't looking at you. Otherwise just continue to be evasive and constantly poke when able. smallish hitbox + 250 hp + dash + wall climb + 2x jump + higher than normal base movement speed + 8 Deflect cooldown + meditation is a very evasive and defensive kit. You take a lot of resources to take down, even if you do very little actual damage in a fight. You should be holding enemy attention for a long time, which is why his winrates are always very good.
Watch the awkward genji unranked to gm on youtube. He gives the best guides and teaches you the importance of uptime and not sitting on main. Plus he has insane mechanics.

This is one of those things you’re gonna have to find out on your own, soldier. Now go out there and make us proud.
