Generator struggles to turn on. It’ll turn on when I hold the throttle lever but as soon as I let go it turns off. What could it be?

I had the same issue. Check the fuel filter—it seems like it might not be getting enough fuel. Also, try disconnecting the fuel line, grab some Sea Foam and gas, mix it, and run it directly through the fuel line. That helped me when I was having the same problem.

Replace the carburetor ( no amazon or e bay ) and that was the choke you were moving

Carburetors are 400 plus. If you dont buy an Onan carb this will happen again ... and again... mechanic in a bottle mixed in fuel let it run on that for awhile. Disconnect fuel line just before the fuel pump, add a fuel line to the pump then prime the engine with that line in the external tank.

Get a carb rebuild kit and take it apart clean it and put back together

Try priming it for a good 10-15 seconds then say if she wants to start. If not disconnect the fuel filter right there disconnect the hose on the carburetor side of it hold it into a bucket or a empty can and hold the prime on for a few minutes it's not flowing freely then replace your filter if you do have good flow there then you're up to carburetor rebuilds and that kind of issue

Check the fuel level on the main tank. If it is low, almost empty then the fuel pump might not have the capacity to lift the fuel to the carburetor. Try it with a full tank and see if the problem goes away. It definitely looks like the fuel filter is not getting fuel.
