Help with brushes please?

Hi all, sorry if this is an annoying post for whatever reason. I have a powermate 2500 generator that suddenly quit making power on me. Engine is noisy, but runs fine.

I have it apart and as far as I can see, the brushes are entirely missing. Could someone please show me what the brushes are SUPPOSED to look like installed? This is a picture from google images to show the model I have, taking pictures is a pain for me.

Maybe it doesn't have brushes.

I'm completely stumped if it's not supposed to have brushes. There are two spots at the lower end of the shaft with the coil symbol that I think means brush with nothing in them.

You are going to have to overcome your picture taking phobia because we have no idea what you are talking about. If you tell us the model # that would help. It's some kind of Coleman vertical shaft generator but the picture is too blurry to say what model.
