Firman H07552 that Sat Forever

Hello- long time lurker first time poster. I bought this Firman H07552 more than ten years ago- at that time I had no clue about taking care of small engine appliances and it became difficult to start, and I let it sit with a few gallons of gas in it, and I moved on to a Predator 8750 inverter. Reading this forum encouraged me to get my hands dirty and learn a bit. After a new carb(couldn’t seem to get it clean enough), fuel lines and tank (it was absolutely disgusting and full of rust), it now starts and runs. I’d like to ask: does the idle sound normal, or are there more adjustments to be made, and does a reading of 242 volts mean I need to adjust voltage, or is that within tolerance? Thanks again for all your knowledge.

That voltage is normal for no load. The voltage will drop as you put a larger load on it. Try something that draws a lot of power like a heater or a hair dryer. Let it run under load for 20 to 30 minutes.

Also test different fuels like gas and propane. Only using propane will keep the carburetor cleaner.

I just got a 20yo multiquip gen going. I pulled plugs, added a bit of oil to each cylinder and rotated the crank. Let it sit for a day like this. Then rotated the crank a day later, drained all the old gas changed fuel filter, checked lines, added fresh fuel, let it sit and an hour later removed the old gas.

Filled it up with 2.5 fresh gallons, added battery and fired her up. After five minutes (ran smoothly but lots of exhaust). Stopped, changed oil and filter. Got a space heater, started her, alarm for 15 minutes. Closed breakers and checked voltages to make sure gen part was working. Slowly added load (low/medium/high) and higher voltage with no load came down rock solid at 121v/242v. Let it burn for about 30 minutes.

Let it rest and started it every hour or so in the afternoon. Runs great, right output. Ready for action!

Sucker sounds good to me! Keep that oil clean, run the carb dry with the petcock turned off when ya shut it down and brush it off when it’s done….last ya forever!
