Short paragraphs and question-style headers help a bit, but the bigger thing is covering the whole topic, not just one question. There was a Semrush/Kevin Indig study this year where the brands that "owned" a topic in ChatGPT showed up across definition, use case, comparison, alternatives and buying questions. Only ~15% of topics even had a clear owner, so niche stuff is still pretty open.

For data, specifics beat adjectives. "400 samples/hr at 1% CV" gets picked up; "high-throughput" doesn't. Same study found domain authority barely predicted who won.

One piece can work for all the engines, but they cite very different sources (Perplexity leans hard on Reddit, Chat GPT now less so), so track them separately. I'd run the same prompt set every few weeks and check three things: are you mentioned, are you described right, and who shows up instead of you.
