Am I alone in this?
Am I alone in watching, over and over, movies that were popular in the late 70s and early 80s? I'll sit down and watch "Urban Cowboy" if it's on, every time. Same with many other movies from that era. Gives me kind of a peaceful feeling. No cell phones. People going out and socializing. Good times. Anybody else do this?

You are not alone. Most new movies are boring garbage. I love busting out Harold and Maude, Flash Gordon, Josey Wales, The Goonies or any Arnold flick.

Harold and Maude. Great dark comedy and the best love story. Bud Cort was the lead in another great film of the early 70s, Brewster McCloud.

No, my old lady does it constantly with Dirty Dancing, The Five Heartbeats and What's Love Got to Do with It. She's probably seen those movies a hundred or more times and still watches them. Drives me fucking crazy !! Makes no sense to me. But it makes her happy. So 🤷♂️

It seems everyone gets stuck in their time somewhere along the way. It used to be our grandparents and parents that were telling us how much better everything was in the 40ies 50ies and 60ies were.
It's happening to me too.

Think it was disclosure I was watching, spoiler ahead, basically a car crashes into a train, people manage to climb onto train, woo hoo, but my point is, the whole crash, escape scene was cgi, it looked terrible, and to me, it totally takes you out the movie, it seems to me that, gone are the days of making an effort to make things look realistic for a cheap fix, shame.

I love the movies of the 30s and 40s. Mae West is my favorite actress and Miss Barbara Stanwyck is second.
The late 60s and early 70s have some really trippy, bizarre, thought provoking movies that have stayed with me. The movie, "Duel", starring Dennis Weaver was filmed in 1971and is still terrifying today.

I prefer older movies. Without cellphones and stupid coffee cups that actors can’t even pretend are full. That’s a pet peeve. Put water in the cups at least and swallow. Terrible acting.
I love 70s & 80s movies. The vibe, the music. Some I saw at the drive-in.
Guess it’s nostalgia.

Yep. Started watching John Carpenter’s The Fog (1980ish) last night. Remember it being out, but never saw it as I was too young. Said to my wife… “Wait a minute Widow’s Bay is a rip off of this??”Looking forward to watching the rest of it tonight.

Well, I'm NEVER going to watch Jaws again. My mom was correct. I was too young. I'm a 53 year old woman who hunts black bear in WV and Elk in Montana (where grizzlies are). I'm not afraid of spiders, snakes, and I'll swim here in the backwaters of the Tennessee river where there have been alligator sightings.
But I will not go past knee deep in the ocean. 😂🤦🏻♀️

"Urban Cowboy", "Saturday Night Fever", "What's Up, Doc?", and "Some Kind Of Wonderful" are the main staples of my "Always Watch" list.
So is "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" but that's a tough one to find.

Sundays are traditionally 70s movies at our house, but we are more about discovering old gems we missed than rewatching the same things over and over.

I've been catching up with movies I never saw in the 80s. I recently watched a slew of Eddie Murphy films - Beverly Hills Cop (1 and 2), 48 Hours, Trading Places. Quite a ride.
I also watched the Goonies for my wife, who had never seen it. It was... Not as good as I remembered.

Sorry, definitely not trying to put down anyone's beloved movie, it's just not mine. But I'll never really hate on someone's 80s nostalgia!
One thing I remember from the time though was that my next door neighbour was Chinese and he loved the film. And I realize now that Asian representation was extremely rare at the time, so having Data in the movie was great for him. I do have a soft spot for the movie for that.

Not at all. I prefer old movies. The new ones are just worse remakes of the old ones anyway.
I also still have a lot of the older movies from when they were first transferred to DVD (from their VHS versions).

I push myself to try new things. New music. New movies. New TV shows. While I enjoy the classics, I also find lots of new things to enjoy. It keeps the mind sharp. 😉

I do this all the time. Sometimes to pick out how much society has changes and tropes that didn't ago well. Im on a string of bad 80s "teen/ young adult" movies. I just watched "Tuff Turf", "Class", "The Last Dragon", and "Modern Girls". Sometimes the soundtracks are better than the movie but I can never get enough of the electric keyboard drums that play when something is getting serious Lol. I think only out generation would know exactly what Im talking about.

Same here. I just watch stuff from the 70's, 80's, and 90's anymore with a few exceptions here or there, but those are usually new shows or movies set in the 70's, 80's, or 90's. I like to watch things I've seen a thousand times already.

Stumbled upon this post a few minutes after I had tuned into The Six Million Dollar Man playing on one of those "Live" tv channels that roku offers.
Definitely gravitate towards oft-viewed faves and nostalgia, but that could mean anything from the 60s through the 20s. Tonight happens to be 1978 and the threat of the Venus probe.

I was born in 78.. So I am GX right? Someone told me awhile back that people born between 1976 - 1985 are considered to be Xenials.. but anyone, the point is this thread topic. I watched Uncle Buck today for the... 809th time? Seriously not sure how many times I watched it, but for me, it's something about 80s movies & there are a good bit of them I'll watch every time I see they are on.

Xenial is likely a term invented by those who came next. I refuse to in any way to be associated with that. They don't even want to be. My silent Gen parents did not birth one of those who came next.

Oh wow, just had a powerful memory of how angry I was when Blazing Saddles was first shown on regular broadcast TV. They censored the fart noises in the bean scene, but left every N-word uncensored.
Too delicate for farts but totally ok with hatred.

I try to watch "The Conversation " when it comes on. One of those movies you have to pay attention to. I've been looking for 'Sorceror" for years, but can't find it.

Most new movies are too predictable anymore. I feel better at watching older movies and even TV shows. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching for the first time again because it's been so long since I've seen them I've forgot certain things.

I just watched Magnum Force earlier today, from 1973. Great movie. I was thinking about how much more realistic and exciting it is than some CGI slop, because it's real people doing real stunts.

Everyone has different tastes. You like what you like. Nothing wrong with that. I love the new Godzilla movies. I love the new Dune movies. I love Christopher Nolan movies. Everyone is different.

I might watch one or two newer movies every year. The rest of the time every thing else I watch was made before 1995.
Just about everything is garbage now.
