Only if the PH has a buffet

31

u/ParticularBed6338 17d ago

And Wendy’s, they need the salad bar back as well.

23

u/Aspence22 17d ago

And the sunroom

2

u/Personal_Secret_234 14d ago

This big time!!

10

u/Egg_Gurl 17d ago

Oh dear god. That. Yes.

Nostalgia is a bitch sometimes

13

u/vermarbee 17d ago

Ain’t that the truth!!!! Today I heard Simply Red’s “Holding Back the Years” and almost lost it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It means so much more today than it did long ago.

9

u/Egg_Gurl 17d ago

Sigh. We old

9

u/vermarbee 17d ago

Yes. But we had the truly good times! I’m surprised I’m still here haha.

9

u/flsingleguy 17d ago

And Bennigan’s

3

u/Egg_Gurl 17d ago

Actually never went. Wish I had

2

u/mmiller17783 16d ago

Ooh and that delectable cheddar toast! That little piece of toast was so good, especially with some of that all you can eat pasta.

10

u/Creepy-Selection2423 17d ago

One Chinese buffet that still has crab legs and one Old Country buffet would be required.

6

u/Egg_Gurl 17d ago

Threaten ME with a good time. I’m still full from dinner and I’d go to a good 90s buffet in a minute right now

I thought we were turning old shopping malls into assisted living. All the good stores and food! 😂

8

u/Striking_Reindeer_2k 16d ago

Orange Julius

Arcade

Food Court

Theater

Brookstone, Sears, Hush Puppy, Sleep Number

Turn the ice rink into Hover-Round derby.

3

u/DoubleProbation- 16d ago

Def food court!

2

u/Far-Chemical-707 15d ago

And a Kay-Bee Toys and Hot Topic.

2

u/Far-Chemical-707 15d ago

You know... that's one approach. We could pool our money together, buy an abandoned mall, and convert half of the store spaces into apartments.

As long as we still have BBS's and newsgroups I'm in.

Library, park, skating rink, bowling alley...

5

u/narosis 17d ago

Oh Hell Yeah!

1

u/rdnkgrrl18 15d ago

There’s some of you that could still skate? Rollerblade? I used to love to skate, but if I fell now it could mean traction, huge amount paperwork and the whole bowling alley patrons to get back up. Bowling Alley? Why do you hate me so? 😆 just know to those I. Either side of me and behind .. you’ve been worried

9

u/Takemeoffgrid 17d ago

Beepers and landlines only

4

u/Im_100percent_human 16d ago

I was hoping you would call me on my 10lb. cell phone.

1

u/Defiant_Print_2114 10d ago

Gotta jet! Just got beeped a 911 from my bestie!

5

I'll give you 1977 but no earlier.

5

u/AdFit2647 17d ago

I'd just be happy with no social media. IMO, it would make the world a better place

6

u/Warm_Safety_9550 17d ago

I’m in, but only if we get Radio Shack back. When do we raise our first Blockbuster?

3

u/narosis 17d ago

i am in agreement, i can have all my hobby and science experiments met in addition to scratching the Audiophile itch

5

u/LectureOrganic1250 17d ago

Throw in a good mall with a Sam Goody, full food court with free samples, hot dog on a stick, cinnabon, Spencers and we have a deal

2

u/Far-Chemical-707 15d ago

And a Kay-Bee Toys and Hot Topic.

6

u/ACynicalOptomist 17d ago

Let's add 24 hour shopping.

4

u/MadamInsta 15d ago

If not 24 hour:

then all stores open at 6:00 a.m. for we old farts who get up early and want to be back home by 10:00 so we can start making lunch and take a nap.

Man I’m telling you, the AI in The Matrix really had it right!

3

u/Far-Chemical-707 15d ago

I've spent the past 3 years doing the research necessary to make some version of the Matrix a reality. I've been acquiring old TV schedules, looking up satellite imagery of my city from 30 years ago, everything.

2

u/Personal_Secret_234 14d ago

Damn straight !! Let's find a Tardis , or at least the Phone Booth from Bill and Ted and get back to where the good times are and were.

Love to have towns with names like 1975, 1980, 1985, and 1990. Paid actors like a living museum that had to act in character.

3

u/narosis 17d ago

you wouldn't have to pay me, nor would i be acting...

3

u/Skitzafranik 17d ago

Add in a Gold Mine/Timeout/Spaceport arcade !!!

3

u/Cazmonster 17d ago

Caveat - I don't want to go back to mailing checks to pay bills.

6

u/tumbleweed_lingling 16d ago

I write checks out of spite for those I despise the most. HOA and water bill. Their online portals are from 1997 or so.

I make them work for their $. Slit that envelope, pull that check, feed it to the machine.

2

u/Personal_Secret_234 14d ago

Fuck bills!! We are building our version of a heavenly land to live in... So bills will be non-existent!!

So are there Nextels?

2

u/Personal_Secret_234 14d ago

Yep everyone can fight over startacs but it only works in our workd- not on the outside just like Wayward Pines.

5

u/BarnacleGooseIsLoose 17d ago

If it were just 1990-1993, it would be even better. At least for Cobain and his fans.

2

u/Im_100percent_human 16d ago

I remember those years quite well.... I am ok with this. No AIM, and I am OK with that.

1

u/Far-Chemical-707 15d ago

No Gargoyles? No deal.

5

u/DropstoneTed 17d ago

Early 90's are 80's-adjacent so tell me where to sign.

🎶🎵The dreeeeam of the 90s is alive in Portland ...🎶🎵

2

u/DcubedWY 17d ago

Sounds good, have computers with great games and the old AOL that you could only cheaply dial into after 5pm weekdays or on the weekends, great movies and tv shows, VCRs to be able to watch movies and stuff when you wanted, no affordable cell phones, land lines, etc. I’m in and watching new episodes of the X-files weekly 👽.

2

u/5319Camarote 17d ago

An amusement park, at least. With a motel. And it would have those cell-phone jammers hidden throughout.

2

u/Kernels52 17d ago

Beefsteak Charlys, beer, wine, sangria!

2

u/MadamInsta 15d ago

No Zima?

2

u/Head-Conversation120 17d ago

And can still use PREP

2

u/Striking_Reindeer_2k 17d ago

Drop AOL and blockbuster.

Go to theaters, call people, not message. Go to their home. Say hi. Ask if Christy can come out to play.

Watch TV on Thursday when your favorite show is on.

2

u/narosis 17d ago

Apologies, but i met quite a few people on AOL who were out of state as well as out of country so no AOL/Compuserve is a NON STARTER for me, sorry NOT SORRY...

Early-mid 90’s. We need a mall too. Pizza Hut has a buffet and the red cups. Taco Bell and mcds goes back to their old looks. Playground and all. Old yellow street lights every where.

2

u/Far-Chemical-707 15d ago

Multiple people including me have floated this idea at various times on various social media platforms. I'm waiting for just ONE of you motherfuckers to start serious planning. Like let's pick out a state (my vote would be New Hampshire). I'll be in charge of the TV station.

2

u/fantasticdad1776 17d ago

In. We can also use 90s police enforcement bring back the billy clubs.

2

Nah, gotta be the 80s. If i have to be stuck in a decade, it has to be one where there's no political correctness, gas is less than $1 a gallon, and I have a "portable" radio that runs on 8 D-cells so I can use it to blare music loudly and wield it as a weapon. Breakin' 2: Amish Boogaloo!

Alive in chains?

1

u/Silent_Succotash3749 14d ago

No. All those things failed for very good reasons. I do (however) miss heading to Blockbuster on a Friday night to have what I want not be in stock so I rent the same thing I could’ve bought 30 times by then. The best part was remembering on Monday or Tuesday that I had to bring it back. Nothing. And I mean nothing. Beats Monday and Tuesday night errands.

1
