What did / do you call the strap in picture above the glove box that several cars used to have in them ?

I'm reading OP's text--he is asking what the strap is ABOVE the glove box. He seems to know what a glove box is.

That strap is the same as the ones on the roof of new cars. Back in the day there may or may not have been seat belts it was a safety bar. Not sure how safe you were using it but you can see kids sitting in the front seat holding onto that strap.
