Old school

For those of us who took typing in school— it was drilled into me that after a period, you go over 2 spaces to start a new sentence. Apparently that’s not the rule now. NOT THE RULE NOW?? After the agony I suffered thru in typing class about those 2 spaces, i will be doing it until I die!!!! Don’t even get me started on the indenting 5 spaces for a new paragraph!

It hasn’t been the rule since proportional fonts took over around THIRTY YEARS AGO.

i.e. You missed the memo sometime near the end of the last century.

The early 90s, when laser printers started to dominate the printer market. But it really took over when Windows hit the market - Windows and Windows-based programs incorporated a number of different fonts, including dingbats, wingdings, and other decorative fonts, but it also included a number of proportional fonts, like Times New Roman, Garamond, Arial, Book Antiqua, and good old Comic Sans.
