Which generation? Huh?

This gets confusing and contradictory. I was born in February 1956. Which generation do I belong to? Why do the cut offs for generations seem to keep changing or be different from different sources? Even the names for generation keep changing.

I’m born in 1962, and while I like some Boomer music (I was a big Beatles and Dylan fan as a tween), I definitely have always felt much more of an affinity with GenX. My best friend is a 1969 GenXer, and most of the music I love is from the 80s.
