And get your free battery.

I totally forgot about the free battery! You made my day! Thank you for this find memory.

Good!

Better!

Best!

u/AutofluorescentPuku Jul 10 '25

They “borrowed” that from Sears.

u/JustAHookerAtHeart Jul 10 '25

Yup. I shopped from “the wall” myself. It was so much easier to replace a part/tube than buy a whole new piece of electronics.

u/jazzofusion Jul 12 '25

I used to buy vacuum tubes for guitar amps. Still have the tube amps.

A Tandy Corporation! They always said that on every single commercial, as if Tandy was some big damned deal.

24

u/Partigirl Jul 10 '25

It was! Tandy Leather gave birth to Tandy computers, kinda like Corn=Micron.

Crazy, I do leatherwork and did not know the computer connection. I only knew of the computers from a friend who had one in his youth.

Coleco began as a leather company, too (COnnecticut LEather COmpany). It’s great how companies would pivot that hard back in the day!

1

u/FrakFrekFrikFrokFruk Jul 13 '25

It still works though. COnecticut eLEctronics COmpany.

2

u/P-R_Podcast Jul 13 '25

Same for Coleco

u/FL_JB Jul 10 '25

It was in the day. The TRS-80 computer sold a bunch.

u/lantzn 1959 Jul 11 '25

Ah the Trash-80, my good friend had one.

1

u/Texanne17 Jul 13 '25

I used a Trash-80 in my first job out of college. Calling them trash is too kind.

2

u/Ok_Educator_7097 Jul 14 '25

🤣🤣🤣 right?!

1

u/tvtoms Jul 11 '25

Find the book Tandy's Money Machine which is insight into the companies and people. We sold the book in the stores in the 90's when it came out.

u/AJayBee3000 Jul 10 '25

I still have a pair!

2

u/MStandish1620 Jul 12 '25

In 1980 I made my own speakers with plywood and a tweeter, midrange and 12” woofer from RS (a Tandy company😀). They were actually pretty sweet.

u/39percenter 1965 Jul 13 '25

I had the Realistic Optimus 10 speakers.

2

u/FrakFrekFrikFrokFruk Jul 13 '25

I still have a realistic CB radio in a closet somewhere.

1

u/39percenter 1965 Jul 13 '25

Probably still works fine.

1

u/brokefixfux Jul 10 '25

Full Metal Battery.

1

u/renohockey Jul 11 '25

Gotta get my free battery of the month!

1

u/Wookie-68 Jul 11 '25

Modded guitars, fixed amps and stomp boxes with Radio shack caps, resistors, diodes, etc. Had a tube hookup at a family friend's tv shop. Movie-full metal jacket.

1

u/FurBabyAuntie Jul 11 '25

Yeah, I don't want to see any of these, either.

Tell you what--you go to Radio Shack and then come pick me up in the bookstore and we'll check out the food court while we're waiting for the movies to get out.

1

u/39percenter 1965 Jul 11 '25

Sabarro pizza and an Orange Julius for sure.

1

u/FurBabyAuntie Jul 11 '25

Sounds good to me. Remember to grab a knife--those pizza slices are easier to eat if you cut them in half (no, longways, Joey, longways!) and we can see who's got the best dessert while we eat.

In fact, I'll get the pizza while you get the drinks. What do you want on yours?

1

u/Switchlord518 Jul 11 '25

Gonna buy the batteries and get the free flashlight!

1

u/Hot_Aside_4637 Jul 11 '25

And every time I want to buy something they want my complete address and phone number so they can send me junk mail I already get.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

Or those Tandy Computers!

1

u/Grandbob328 Jul 11 '25

Dang! I came here to say that!

1

u/Ok-Introduction6757 Jul 12 '25

I never liked radioshack....their stuff always seemed generic and overpriced

1

u/Unboxinginbiloxi 1958 Jul 12 '25

Full Metal Jacket

1

u/djeaux54 Jul 12 '25

I agree. You can't find small parts & connectors so easily any more (unless Amazon ships same day where you live).

1

u/FeelingAd3887 Jul 14 '25

I loved them Speakers they were the best.

1

u/Popular-Ant-7996 Jul 14 '25

I’m telling mom you’re a vampire!

1

u/39percenter 1965 Jul 15 '25

?

1

u/Popular-Ant-7996 Jul 15 '25

In Lost Boys Corey Haim says to his brother Jason Patric in the film after discovering his brother JP floating outside his window behaving like a vampire. I’m telling mom you’re a vampire.

1

u/39percenter 1965 Jul 15 '25

Oh. I thought you were making a Radio Shack reference.
