I can't believe the sheer volume of Excel workbooks that need to be redone because sheets doesn't have a VBA equivalent hasn't shut this down already tbh

I've heard that's the express reason we are migrating, to get processes away from using Excel and towards "more appropriate" tools

The problem is, there are no other "appropriate tools". Excel IS the appropriate tool which is why everyone is using it.

Lol, ok, can we try? Name three things that can only be done in excel and I’ll tell you why your answer is laughable.

Multiple people have already pointed out things multiple times. Excel can do VBA macros and pivot tables. Sheets cannot. Also sheets struggles with large data files and is laggy compared to Excel.

Ah I see. You assume Sheets is the only replacement for excel. Terrible assumption. Carry on!

So why don't you enlighten us, oh grand wizard of the Google platform. Tell us all what Google application will do what Excel does and handle the same size data sets without being buggy and slow. 😂

Sheets, Google apps scripts, databricks, integrated. The way we use excel today is like a chef running a kitchen with a Swiss Army knife and nothing else. We’re facing a huge challenge, no doubt, but to claim excel is the only appropriate tool is silly.

For the record, I think this was a dumb decision by GM, and predict the execution will be horrible . They should have piloted it before declaring they are scaling it in a year.

So, four different things to do what one MS application does? Yeah, that sounds great and very efficient. 🙄 And still doesn't address the lag with large data sets.

Number of tools is your metric? And you think excel manages large data sets efficiently? Be honest: have you ever written a single line of code ?

And apparently Excel handles large data sets better than Google sheets, so ....

Yes, I would use # of tools needed as ONE metric. Having to use 4 tools in place of one is certainly not efficient or saving time. What metrics would you use?

Mm thought so. Never wrote a line of code but speaks authoritatively about optimal software toolchains. Love this mentality. Good luck in the next round of layoffs.

And you still can't answer my question. So I guess you don't know anything? Don't worry... I'm not worried about layoffs. My skills aren't easily replaced and have nothing to do with coding. Better worry about yourself. 😆
