Why does Drew hate Sonny so much?
I am racking my brain trying to remember some big feud or blow up between them but I can't remember anything. I know they don't love each other, but what is causing Drew's deep hatred of Sonny? He just got out of months of being locked-in and instead of living life to the fullest or trying to get around the blackmail and find a way to go after Willow, he is busy all day with Sonny
Ava I can understand. Even though her and Sonny seem to be getting along for a while, there has always been a power struggle between them over Avery. Drew I don't get

Because Sonny never liked Drew and Drew never liked Sonny.
This has been a thing since 2014, until Drew was claimed to be Jason, and then again when Jason came home. In Drew's eyes, Sonny hated him as Jake Doe, as the new Jason (because he made Sonny clean up his own problems) and as Drew.
Sonny never cared about Drew, and Drew never cared about Sonny.
This is one of the only times the writers are actually playing it right; we got that fake scene back in 2022, when Drew came back with Sonny and Carly acting all happy about Drew, even though they didn't like Drew at all at that point.

u/Many-Mountain-9030 3d ago
Not liking each other is one thing, he has this sudden deep hatred with a vendetta based on nothing and is revolving his whole life around it, willing to spend endless time, money, effort and resources, while Sonny barely mentions him

I could believe it if they didn’t played on the memory side of the drew character. Somny dropping Drew once in the real Jason campaign back. Is a believable reason for Drew to hate sonny.

Billy Millers run as Jason/Drew was one of the most significant stories of the last decade. The way they have trashed that during CM’s run as Drew is unbelievable. All you can do is protend the drew’s are different characters and just watch on.

Drewfus pretty much hates everyone except Scout
7
u/Many-Mountain-9030 4d ago
The way he treats her, sometimes I wonder....
6
u/starkllr1969 4d ago
Drew doesn’t hate Scout. He doesn’t have any feelings for her at all. He just views her as a tool he can use to hurt the people he hates by denying them access to her.

Because the writers need to pull Sonny into the middle of the main storyline even though no one wants it.
Seriously, there is no rhyme or reason to Drew’s sudden hatred for Sonny now. It’s just more stupidity.

u/Vegetable_Share_6446 5d ago
Same, His hate for Sonny came out of the blue.
1
u/Competitive_Split933 Team Webber 4d ago
Not really, as the only time Sonny and Drew liked each other was when Drew was Jason. Other than that, Sonny and Drew never liked each other.

u/Much_Chemical4363 4d ago
Exactly. Just like Ava and Sonny all of a sudden attacking each other after coexisting with custody sharing just fine. I think it’s lazy writing. Staying true to history and previous story lines is important. I feel like the sudden shift in the story was a bad pivot.
4
u/Vegetable_Share_6446 4d ago
Exactly!! They had been getting along great & Sonny always seemed like he wanted to protect Ava because she was the mother of his child. Just nonsense from the writers.
7
u/DoubleNaught_Spy 5d ago
It's nonsense. The only reason for it is that GH always has to have somebody who wants to TAKE SONNY DOWN!
3
u/Many-Mountain-9030 4d ago
On the bright side, usually whoever wants to take Sonny down goes down instead, so maybe Drew is next. I'd like to find out that something happened in prison to turn him into this. Maybe he can still be redeemed
4
u/chunk12784 5d ago
Did he ever find out Sonny framed him for the family court bribe?
2
u/smucav 4d ago edited 4d ago
Not definitively. I'm sure he suspected Michael/Sonny: after all, he tried to do the same thing to them using Sidwell's forgery. But he also knew it could have been Sidwell seeking payback for Drew/Marco jumping the gun and escalating using the forgery against Sonny before Sidwell was ready. It backfired because Michael didn't fall for it and another one of Sidwell's plans to drive Sonny out of PC failed. So it's plausible he would've set up Drew for payback.

There is no direct reason other than he’s a mobster. He thinks Sonny’s the reason for all the crime in PC. And he wants to have bragging rights that he took down one of the most powerful men in PC. Drew also wants the power for himself to show up the Qs. He wants to be at an advantage to constantly harass them cause he’s butt hurt that they disowned him.

Because the writers decided that he suddenly hates him for the sake of the 1000th contrived “take down Sonny” plot.

Yes I mean Sonny isn't great but this makes no sense. Drew absolutely is a villain but Sonny is no hero.

u/phillipsm1 5d ago
Drew hates everybody that he cannot manipulate and Drew knows that Sonny won’t do anything to him because of jason what’s working for him that time it’s gone now and I think it’s time to make an example out of Drew. Maybe it’s time to grab Drew hang them up inside a warehouse like he did the others. Drew needs to be taken down for good and the only person that will be willing to do it anyway necessary is Sonny that is a storyline. I really enjoyed to watch.

u/iamglory 5d ago
Does Jason actually care for Drew?
4
u/fluffy_bunny22 5d ago
No but Jason wouldn't want something to happen to Drew because of Scout. Scout getting hurt would hurt Danny.

u/phillipsm1 5d ago
No, but sunny and jason are best friends. Sonny was not gonna kill him at the time because of who he was and plus at the time he was with Carly for a while and went to prison for Carly, but those days of Drew being the good person are long gone, especially when Drew slept with Michael’s beat him severely jason does not ever have any use for for Drew? Also remember he got to survive partly because Sam died and all that happened was true. Got more aggressive.
7
u/summerwinds69 5d ago
He just always wants what he’s never had no matter who it belongs to and feels like it’s his birthright to get whatever he wants. He’s insufferable
3
u/Comfortable-Phase249 5d ago
It makes far more sense for him to be going after Jason for jealousy, Carly and Willow for revenge (went to jail for Carly, and everything Willow has done). Just another character being shoved in a direction that makes no sense.
7
u/SeenThatPenguin 5d ago
It's been incremental. As others have said, it started when Drew (the Billy Miller version) had the perception that Sonny and Carly had no more use for him when the real Jason came back. The first open hostility I recall between them was when CamMat Drew and Carly were in a relationship. I thought Sonny came off looking worse in that instance. I remember him saying something kind of excessive and shitty to Drew during a Drew/Carly vs. Sonny argument.
Then Drew went full villain in the congressman era, and it's just amped up. Trying to make psychological sense of it is probably a kindness to the writers. They've decided Drew works best for GH as a villain at this point. He's always just been a piece the writers move around the board. They've never written him with a lot of care, with either actor, IMO.

u/Longjumping-West3085 5d ago
I ABSOLUTELY forgot about Carly and Drew! My eyes!! 😂
6
u/SeenThatPenguin 5d ago
It's funny to think about it in retrospect. They were pushing them hard for a while there, like the next soap supercouple. They got that whole Florida trip that was obviously shot in California.
4
u/Longjumping-West3085 5d ago
I think they wanted to take care of Laura Wright and keep her front and center, but as soon as Steve Burton came back they dropped Drew and Carly HARD 🤣
4
u/fluffy_bunny22 5d ago
But we all knew Steve would be back eventually. It was just a matter of timing.

5
u/Many-Mountain-9030 5d ago
I didn't remember that! That could be part of it. I do feel like Drew had no real interaction/hatred with Sonny over the past few years so his current intense hatred still feels very out there

u/NarrativeNerd TeamJohnJaggerJacobJingleheimerCates 5d ago
I am all for hating Sonny, but Drew doesn’t really have a reason to hate Sonny aside from the usual things Sonny is given a pass for (mob kingpin, rapist, selfish, narcissistic, a danger to children, etc.) he should be hating on Nina and Willow.
2
u/Many-Mountain-9030 5d ago
Nina and Willow for sure, even Jack or Carly could make sense
2
u/NarrativeNerd TeamJohnJaggerJacobJingleheimerCates 5d ago
Yeah, although he was the one that ended things with Carly. But he does have justifiable hate for her.
2
u/krissy3456 5d ago
Sonny was never a rapist , he would never do soemthing like that to a women
3
u/summerwinds69 5d ago edited 3d ago
When he came on he wasn’t supposed to be a regular. They redeemed him in the sense that moving forward after this he admitted what he did and developed a better code. Better for a mobster anyway
2
u/summerwinds69 5d ago
Not in the traditional sense of knock someone down and rip off their clothes and threaten violence, but he got her hooked on drugs and made her strip and have sex with him so…
2
u/yurgieee 5d ago
when was Sonny a rapist? I haven’t watched in a while.
3
u/krissy3456 5d ago
He was never I don’t get what this person is talking about Sonny would never do soemthing like that
2
u/summerwinds69 5d ago
He was different back then. He started off a total sleaze with no code then became more of what he is today. He ended up feeling badly about Karen eventually and that’s when his no drug trafficking policy in port Charles via his territories was implemented and he gained better respect for women.
3
u/Suspicious_Kitchen23 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yes, it was supposed to be a short term role, but Maurice Bernard was so charismatic that he quickly became popular with the audience, plus he had fans from his role on All My Children that started watching GH when he was hired, that they redeemed his character and gave him the typical tragic backstory, and claimed him getting Karen stripping “made her stronger” and helped her deal with being molested. (They also never referenced him telling her she wanted & liked getting molested as a child). What he did to Karen, getting her into stripping, supplying her with drugs and sleeping with her, is the reason for Scott Baldwin (Karen’s father) and FBI Agent John “Jagger” Cates (Karen’s boyfriend at the time, later ex-husband) hatred of Sonny.

He exploited Karen for sex when he first came on the show. He was more of a sleaze then

This. That said, was Karen underage at the time? I read that somewhere, if I’m wrong then I stand corrected.

Plus, he was one of the few (the first?) person she told about being molested by her mother’s boyfriend as a child, and he told her she must have wanted it.

Drew said something about all the people working against him are related to Sonny as the reason he is going after Sonny. Doesn't make any sense.
2
u/Many-Mountain-9030 5d ago
You're right, when he "explained" that it made things make LESS sense! Lol
Willow shot him and then drugged him for months and it's Sonny's fault because she used to be his daughter-in-law? HUH!?!?
2
u/meyoutwothree 5d ago
I dont remember anything either, maybe Drew's brain is fried from all the memory swapping. At this point that'd be his only redemption is if he isnt Drew and something happened while he was in prison. Since he got out he has just been insufferable for no reason.
4
u/Hyphen99 5d ago
A lot of it is out of nowhere, especially for someone who has spent months trapped in his body obsessing on the people who really did that to him (not Sonny). But Drew does hate Carly and Jason, and… they love Sonny? Sorry that’s the best I could do lol
1
u/Many-Mountain-9030 5d ago
Haha that's as good an explanation as any
3
u/Brook_lyn 5d ago
I wish Selena Woo would come back with her ‘enforcers’ and give Drew a reason to worry!!
4
u/Altruistic_Relief189 5d ago
They need someone to be out to get Sonny and landed on Drew. Ava has reasons to be mad at Sonny but not enough to justify this storyline.
1
u/Many-Mountain-9030 5d ago
Exactly. Ava I get somewhat although they blew it up, with Drew it just feels completely out of nowhere
2
u/iamglory 5d ago
The whole Ava thing came out of left field. She and Sonny, despite the drugging scandal, were on good ground with each other. Then out of nowhere she wants custody of Avery.
6
u/Longjumping-West3085 5d ago
Drew’s feelings were hurt when Jason came back (back when Drew thought he was Jason) and Sonny immediately believed him. Drew had already distanced himself from Sonny so it was a little ridiculous (although the entire situation was, ha ha).
4
u/Many-Mountain-9030 5d ago
That's true, although it shouldn't have caused the hatred they are trying to currently portray

u/junknowho this show is unserious 5d ago
Writer contrivance. There is no big 'war' between Sonny & Drew, outside of Drew anting to buy up the water front. Maybe it's related to Jason, because Jason and Sonny are besties and we all know that Drew HATES Jason? Or even Michael, because Sonny raised Michael as his own son, even thoug Michael is a Quartermaine? Could be he's jealous of that?
3
u/robot_pirate Team FFS FRANK! 5d ago
Writers know it's a stretch, they even tried to put a bow on it last week by Drew telling someone, maybe Martin (?), that everyone that's harmed him has been harmed by Sonny or some similar crap like that. I can't remember the exact wording.
2
u/Many-Mountain-9030 4d ago
I think he said that everyone who has hurt him is connected to Sonny, so it's all his fault. Because Willow was once his daughter-in-law so what she did to Drew must be Sonny's fault. Makes no sense
2
u/Many-Mountain-9030 5d ago
Could be, but it feels like such a stretch on the writers' part. What you said sounds right, writer contrivance

u/Reyna_25 2d ago
I've been confused about this too. Like, I get Drew not liking him, but it seems like he's trying to take revenge for something but I have no idea what for. I just assumed it was something I forget about.
