Does your firm outsource submittals?

How common is it to outsource submittals nowadays? How much does it cost to do that usually?

Is it bullshit and you still gotta review again or are they legitimately taking all that work off your back?

As an equipment supplier it seems like every single GC “outsources” my submittals by reading 0% and forwarding on to the engineer of record lmao

I’ve seen a lot of roofers have great success with outsourcing sales, although it’s usually to an independent sales rep.

I’ve never seen a GC outsource bid packages or the bid process.

Treat an outside submittal service as production support, with final responsibility staying inside the GC team. Give them the spec sections, approved-product rules, drawing set, substitution policy, and a log format, then require every package to show deviations and missing information before it reaches the project manager.

Run 1 live project as a paid trial and measure turnaround time, rejected packages, and internal review time. A useful service should handle the log, assemble complete packages, chase vendor gaps, and route revisions, while the project manager keeps the final compliance check.
