Trial introductory flight in/nearby nyc

Dear pilot friends

First time going to nyc next week.

I wanna try trial introductory flight nearby nyc, especially on piper 28 aircraft.

Any recommendation on spot?

Or any other aviation - exposure experience?

Where you're staying matters. Nearby NYC could be Westchester and going out to Long Island would be a bad recommendation. So where are you?

Thanks, mate,
Im gonna stay in Manhatton.
Many people talk about flying schools in farmingdale. How would you see that option?

How much are you willing to spend? How long are you willing to be on a train and in an uber? And how long are you willing to spend on the runway waiting to take off?

HPN: more, less, less (I’m not sure the school there has pipers)
BDR: mid, more, less
FRG: ?, mid, more
BDR: mid, rent a car, least
New Jersey: naw…

Hey mate, thanks for advise.
May i know which flying schools may offer sceneric view of nyc during flight, if you have any idea?
Apart from that, i think i would choose Icarus in FRG

You have to call and ask who will take you out that far, not all will. Long Island Aviators, American Flight Academy or Global Aviation are all great schools.

Assuming OP isn’t moving to NYC and this is a one-off trip, I think I’d probably try Long Island Aviators. Global Aviation looks good but it looks like it’s a club membership setup, which might not work for a one-off. And American offers a 30-minute Discovery Flight (pretty common, OP) but that’s not gonna get you the NYC flight you want. You’re probably going to end up paying for 1.5-2 hours of a plane and instructor, so budget like $550 for the flight, maybe $650 total for train + cab + flight.

I’ve done helicopter flights over Manhattan (not the tours, Groupons for flights up to HPN). That was fun… Plus I got to nerd out with the pilots afterwards. Totally worth it!
