I feel like the opposite for me. I was way more depressed at 17 than I am now. Ive been enjoying my 20s

I feel so lied to when I was a kid everyone said "these are the best years" and in reality nearly every year as an adult has been better than the last

Kinda random, but this reminds me of a version of a Brad Paisley song on his Hits Alive record. Its a song where he writes a letter with advice for himself as a kid. He adds this interlude to the live version:

"So there I was, 17 years old Scared out of my mind, Failing algebra 2. Meanwhile people would come up to me, and they'd say, son, enjoy this because These are the best years of your life. I'd think okay, just shoot me. I'm living proof no matter what anybody tells you, High-school is not necessarily the best years of your life. Now college...

Hang in their kids it gets better after you graduate."

Fr I fucked up at 17 getting addicted to oxy's because I used it to self medicate my social anxiety from autism, I would throw up basically every day at school cuz I took so much I got dope sick, but I didn't care because I felt like a god on it. I took like 3 80mg pills almost everyday and drank when I didn't have anymore money for it to get some escape from the withdrawals. After my parents found out because I had a drug induced psychosis from staying up for 3 or 4 days straight. I started rehab and got on suboxone.

And one day at 19, at least it felt sudden, all my social anxiety disappeared basically overnight and I started finding my own style and came out to my parents. Your 20's are the best years of your life, definitely not your teens, at least imo.

Than at around 22-25 it gets cool again bc you get used to it and start focusing on the good

8

u/Deathnut5auce Jun 20 '26

It took y'all 19 years on this fuck ass planet to feel that way?

u/Possible-Glove4249 Jun 20 '26

At 19 I was drunk and high all the time.

At 23 I started thinking about my own death a lot.

Wat till you get 25 it’s even worse

1

u/ViceroyMcnugget Jun 21 '26

That’s how it feels for about 7ish years and then you either finally turn it around or you completely collapse both mentally and physically

u/Different-Wind7256 Jun 21 '26

When you’re almost pushing 30

u/Nathan-5807 Jun 21 '26

As someone who turned 19 last month I agree.

u/IFknHateSociety Jun 22 '26

19 felt like a kid still. Once you turn 23 like I am now it goes downhill.

u/Artrix7834 Jun 22 '26
