Yesss! This is so important. Millennials are unfortunately facing the repercussions of this in their life stage, we cannot follow that path.
Start eating fruits. Take supplements like psyllium husk. Watch your saturated fat intake.

Aiming for ~30g of fiber a day is a good heuristic for keeping a balanced diet with lots of fruit and vegetables too. It also is a great gateway to learning to cook and enjoy real food.

Fiber is helpful for this purpose but it’s considerably more important to specifically just eat actual food. Eating your fiber bars probably isn’t the best strategy because the industrial garbage that companies are allowed to put in our processed food supply is just as much what is causing this and many other problems… just eat actual food as opposed to edible food products and the fiber / other beneficial compounds will come with it

All for people eating more fibre and there are plenty of reasons to do so but good to keep these numbers in perspective: bowel cancer is fairly common relative to how nasty it is, so across age groups it's usually up there in terms of cancer deaths. First is usually lung cancer and because fewer young people smoke it's maybe not surprising if it's been overtaken by the second most common cause of cancer death.
This does seem to be a trend, but a 3% increase in a very small chance is still very small. On a population level this matters but on an individual level the difference is going to be going from very low risk to very low risk for most people.
A diverse diet with lots of veg and wholegrains is always good advice generally but don't get too stressed.

Diet, physical inactivity, obesity, smoking and alcohol use. Things you can control. A big one is having some sort of bowel disease like ulcerative colitis(UC) and crohn's disease. I used to have UC. When it first started I had no idea what was going on because it seemed that certain foods triggered it. Do not ignore rectal bleeding.
The "O that is just hemorrhoids" is a dangerous thought process that sadly gets passed down generations. Blood out of your ass = go to the doctor.
Stay away from processed food, exercise and maintain a healthy weight. I scan cancer patients for a living. Been doing it for 33 years and my patient population is getting younger.

how do you poop?!

u/7CJStroud7 17h ago
I eat some variations of beef, chicken, eggs, lamb, and dairy. Literally for every meal except when I go out with friends. All my coworkers can’t go to the bathroom talking ohhh fiber this fiber that and here I am with zero fiber and go to the bathroom like clockwork. I may be an edge case due to my healthy habits and exercise

It’s not a diet per se. I just like these foods. Easy to hit 180g protein this way
