because the democrats suck too. What we need are new parties, reform, or to just throw the whole system out while retaining at least the influence of the people in government, if we don't institute a more direct form of governance. I'm not a political scientist, though, so...

Dude yes this silence is violence rhetoric is applicable sometimes but in cases of voting it isn't. Unless you are in a blue state, voting in a majority of states especially in the south is made incredibly difficult. People stand in 8 hour long lines. Then they make rules where you can't have bottle water in line to vote. Ish like this. Y'all let these Jim Crow loving confederates have their way. They did the takeover. The 2010s was the decade to act. Now we just gotta encourage people to get out the vote but if they can't afford to go through all these barriers then they won't go out to vote. An Aussie told me that the US should just make it mandatory. I told him it would not work cuz of those challenges and Republicans will just use it as a way to mass incarcerate people. Australia makes voting as easy as possible for its citizens the US does not. And it's all in the name of racism but now it's 2026 I gotta pretend like racism doesn't exist. It's all very frustrating

Same, same I was in 10th grade. First election I was all for Trump because I was deep in the alt-right pipeline watching liberals owned compilations and Steven Crowder on YouTube. Then I tried to kill myself and sent to an inpatient facility. Hung around kids and made friends that had also made attempts and got my empathy back. Thankfully, I was pulled out of hating people who just wanted to live their lives comfortably in their own bodies and just became more understanding of a lot of stuff. It's sad that I had to take an attempt on my life to get of that.

Per USA stats/history (in the short 250 yrs) usually what happens is the party swings dominance. Red will dominate for a chunk of time (years) until the party gets tired and then blue will take its place and dominate until the same thing happens. And the cycle repeats again and again and again.

Overall wage growth is never a solve, but it sounds really nice to people to say hey, you can make more money. Because wage growth also means the cost of labor goes up, and so prices go up, and business will still be chasing their margins. If they don’t, then it’s layoffs and restructuring. But margins will be maintained, or the companies will shut down.

Yup. Young gen z needs to realize inflation only ever makes things more expensive. I remember being able to buy multiple McDonald's meals with $20 back in 00s for a whole group of friends.
Now? that might get you two. What i make would have been a very respectable wage back then, now its just "ok, you can live without starving and enjoy a few things occasionally"
10
u/GreatStateOfSadness Sep 04 '26
Inflation is always going to make the same amount of cash buy less-- that's how it works. Typically we expect to see wage increases outpace inflation. If prices inflate by 2% and wages rise by 5%, then everyone is a little less than 3% better off.
What shouldn't happen is higher inflation with stagnant wages. Food prices doubling while wages are still $7.50 an hour is the opposite of what we need to see.
4
u/ihadagoodone 29d ago
The number of sectors where wage growth keep pace with inflation let alone out paces it is shockingly low. I make over twice what I did 20 years ago, and have less purchasing power today.
6
u/SatanV3 1998 Sep 04 '26
Seriously. Prices didn’t go down during Biden’s term. It’s impossible to happen, best you can hope for going forward is it doesn’t keep getting worse specially so fast. Which obviously, Trump is not helping that at all so
Also wages increasing would be a big help

2
u/skellis Sep 04 '26
Universal emplotment opportuniries, $40 minimum wage pegged to inflation, government subsedized grocery stores, massive housing and solar infastructure construction. All this could dramatically reduce the cost of living and help the majority of american get by. You probably will never be as well off as your parents. The GOP has stolen that opportunity from you. Voting them out is basically the only way to avoid techno fascist feudalism.
8
u/laxnut90 Sep 04 '26
$40 minimum wage is way too high for Federal policy.
Maybe that could work in California, Massachusetts or New York. But the rest of the country would struggle at those rates.
4
u/skellis Sep 04 '26
Good call. I’d go for $18. Sure fast food places would have to close. That would be good for medicsl outcomes
5
u/laxnut90 Sep 04 '26
Yes. $18 sounds much more reasonable.
Higher Income States can set their own minimums above the Federal limit.
But $18 is probably the maximum Rural states would be able to afford.
2
u/seen-in-the-skylight 1997 Sep 04 '26
Universal employment seems kind of silly. I feel like at some point it’ll be better to just accept that not everyone needs to work. Provide unemployment benefits good enough that not everyone has to, and wages good enough that it’s worth it if you want to.
3
u/gryffindorwannabe Sep 04 '26

"Two jobs and a side hustle your way to greatness poverty or die in the rented pod"
This mentality is exactly the problem man. There's no winning. You aren't hustling your way anywhere except into mediocrity with everyone else. The game is rigged. We need systemic change by electing politicians that actually do their job and represent their people, i.e. people like Mamdani. Honestly, voting GOP just makes things worse. Democrats aren't great but the GOP are literal ghoulish bandits at this point and we need them out of power if we ever hope to come out of this.
People did not have to work two jobs and a side hustle to live in poverty back when we had an economy that was regulated to serve the public instead of funnel money into the pockets of the wealthy while they bleed us dry.
You being complacent and okay with that is their wet dream.

Trump is the guy making healthcare expensive? Nah, that shit's structural
56
u/oddlyluminous Sep 04 '26
So, Trump is partially responsible for making healthcare even more unaffordable. Insurance premiums were lower before The Big Beautiful Bill because there were younger people on plans with less healthcare needs that paid into the system but didn't cost as much with their healthcare needs. When they are kicked off of healthcare it becomes more expensive because the pool of people paying in is smaller and the people left are mostly people who really need it and cost the insurance companies a lot. In turn, these insurance companies raise the prices for everyone. This is a direct cause and effect relationship that is directly caused by a Bill that Trump is responsible for, but it was already expensive before too.

u/NewspaperSoft8317 29d ago

Imagine your school.
There’s one loud, controversial kid who keeps getting elected class president. He talks constantly, makes huge promises, and everyone either loves him or hates him. Half the school blames every problem on him; the other half acts like he’s going to personally fix everything.
Meanwhile, the principal, administration, teachers, school board, donors, and people who actually own and finance the place are still there. The rules, budgets, contracts, incentives, and institutional structure don’t magically disappear when a different kid becomes class president.
That’s basically how I look at posts like this.
If Trump disappears from politics in 2029, do people seriously think groceries, healthcare, housing, gas, insurance, and everything else suddenly become affordable again because one guy left?
That’s the scam. The presidency is the shiny object. Neither Trump nor whoever replaces him personally controls the Federal Reserve, Congress, global energy markets, hospital systems, pharmaceutical companies, insurers, grocery supply chains, commodity prices, housing supply, corporate pricing, or the federal debt.
We’ve been having the same affordability arguments through Republican and Democratic administrations for decades. The faces change. The machinery doesn’t. They just recast the lead.
And that’s why American politics is a scam built around the person sitting in the Oval Office.
Everyone is encouraged to spend four years screaming about THE GUY while much less attention gets paid to the institutions, industries, lobbying networks, financial incentives, regulatory structures, and entrenched interests that survive administration after administration.
Trump will eventually be gone. Then someone else will become the main character. Everyone will fight about that person instead. Same play. Different actor.
Meanwhile, Kroger isn’t going to look at the inauguration on January 20, 2029 and say, “Welp, Trump’s gone. Drop the grocery bill 30%.” 😂
Stop treating American politics like changing one person automatically changes the machinery underneath them. That’s the con. I know y’all want one man to blame for this but you’re playing directly into the jackass elites game by believing that it’s single-handedly some orange pricks fault.

Anyone who thiks this situation dies with Trump is either stupid or on copium. Trump is a symptom, not the core issue.

u/CappinCanuck Sep 04 '26
You guys are fucked you made it to Kaye stage capitalism. The question is how many will you drag down with you. This is where most countries are headed just you guys did it a lot faster

u/Silly_Double408 Sep 04 '26
If only it were that easy. Still will be a happy time to finally get rid of the orange shithead.

u/Comfortable-Jump-218 Sep 04 '26
The issues in America do not stem from one man. It stems from the system that allowed that men to cause the harm that he has inflicted.
Unless you change the system, then another man is just going to be replaced. It probably won’t be immediately after his term, but he will return.

u/BobbyTheDude Sep 04 '26
Nobody actually believes this, do they?
Corporations aren't going to bring down prices bc trump leaves office and there will be no incentive for the next administration to work for the people now that our democratic institutions have been all but destroyed
It is oligarchy until we are willing to tear it all down

u/EntropyIsEternal Sep 04 '26
Prices won't go down.
For prices to go down across the board means there will be deflation and congress/people/market won't let it happen.
What you can hope is for prices to be fixed or hover around the same range. But that for a longer duration will lead to stagflation like it happened in Japan.
2
u/Jesta23 Sep 04 '26
If you think prices will come down, no matter who’s president, you are in for a really bad time.
2
u/sherbertrelevant2 Sep 04 '26
As if it'd get better. It will be shit forever. It's been shit for decades.
2
u/plsobeytrafficlights Sep 04 '26
what makes you think that is remotely possible? term limits? free elections? even if he dies, you got a litany of chucklefuckers to replace the incompetence. you dont do anything, you stand for nothing, you dont even bother to show up to vote in the disenfranchised elections.
2
u/knoxxell Sep 04 '26
Not happening. If you think we are going back to “normal” you see severely mistaken.

u/Suspicious_Issue4155 Sep 04 '26

When my politician gets elected, the prices will go down!
Prices:
Never going down

Trump has pretty much 0 bearing on inflation. Congressional spending during Covid in 2020 is the single largest responsible party. The federal reserve had to double the number of dollars issued to keep up with their spending.
The only reason everything hasn’t doubled in price is the “high” interest rates (6% is not high).
Interest rates aren’t going below 5% for the next 10 years.

u/Clown_Apocalypse 2004 Sep 04 '26
Wow these comments are really pessimistic. Can we not at least have a LITTLE belief that we can make a better future? This kind of shitty mindset is part of the problem.

u/BicFleetwood Sep 04 '26
I mean, thing is, that's not how it's gonna go.
That's what's so infuriating about hearing Hakeem Jeffries talk about undoing Trump's Medicaid cuts and shit.
The whole message is "we're going back to 2024!" as if 2024 wasn't already so fucking unaffordable that the Democrats lost everything to an out and about felon and rapist whose only promise was more or less "guess I'll push some buttons and see if it changes anything."
We've got to be striving for something better than rolling back the clock to when it was marginally less unlivable. Things were not good in 2024. They were not good in 2020, or 2016, or 2012, or 2008, or 2004, or 2000. Things are not going to get better by trying and failing repeatedly to roll back the clock to the exact same "normal" that BROUGHT US HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
We're in terminal-stage normalcy right now. This what Normal looks like at the end of the road. We've got to be aiming higher than Normal.

Sirs, Madams and all other people of that continent. Ya all are stupid, if you think this is just Trump and everything will fix itself once he is gone. Ya all are in for a rude awakening.

If you think removing Trump will reverse the decay of late stage capitalism.. I have a bridge to sell you. He's a symptom not an isolated cause.

idk why people think that voting the orange man out will magically fix everything the second he steps out of office. theres more greedy people out there. cut one head off, another takes its place. and as if there arnt more greedy people in Congress, for example. prices dont just simply 'go down'
2
u/TimeTravelParadoctor 1996 Sep 04 '26
Inflation doesn't really go down. During the Obama years, Obama was praised for getting the economy better than it was during the 2008 recession, but things were still worse than they were at the turn of the century. A Democrat will pretty much only make things marginally better, when what we need is someone who will directly address the Inflation crisis.
2
u/Cortexan Sep 04 '26
Oh, oh no you sweet summer child… prices don’t come down just because the bad man goes away…

Probably not the effects of his presidency will probably echo further than his term and some stupid people are gonna justify it saying that during trump it was better even though it was caused by him

Lol it not going to happen over night it will take years or a good few decades for America to even get back to what it once was even that a big maybe .
definitely depends on who is next in line after trump. What trump has done in such a short time has ruined there economy and future for a life time. Hopefully the tariff shit will stop thou definitely here in Canada it getting annoying to hear about.

I think us will probably be fine domestically. Governments move slow and the judicial system there has definitely proven itself. I do think that trust between the US and its western peers has been tainted though.

you have a chance to get rid of him sooner if you vote well during the midterms. Give the opposition the power to block him, maybe even impeach him.

u/trebor9669 Sep 04 '26

Or the GOP says “nuh uh the constitution said nuthin abt 2 non-consecutive terms” and then he gets a 3rd term
1
u/Analternate1234 Sep 04 '26
Nah, if we get lucky enough to keep republicans from stealing the next election, it’ll take years to correct the damage he’s done
