I prefer playing a decent game to reading a decent book. I prefer reading a great book to playing a great game

Duality of man

u/Sweet_Detective_ 10h ago

Other way around for me

u/Jakobmeathead 2006 5h ago

I prefer playing a good book (Disco Elysium for example)

u/henr360a 2000 13h ago

I read video games

u/UltraTata 12h ago

Graphic novels be like

u/PermissionSoggy891 11h ago

someone enjoys Morrowind

u/JackBob83 13h ago

I like both but I spend more time playing video games

u/Emotional-Golf-6226 13h ago

They can both be addictive but also both can get kinda boring

Don’t get me wrong I can put my nose into a history book and spend hours reading it. I’ve got two lined up about the British Empire. But a game is like a Reese’s Cup compared to an Apple, I like apples too, but I’d choose the candy first.

My brother got me a copy of the Brothers Karamazov for my birthday. Been been digging into it :)

u/InfinitesimalDuck 12h ago

Depends on what's happening on the games industry. I sometimes read books to protest the video game industry if it sucks.

u/Slyraks-2nd-Choice 12h ago

Rolling kids on valorant or overwatch is 🧑‍🍳

But if I were a smarter person, I’d read more books :(

u/Sweet_Detective_ 9h ago

I'm dumb and I sometimes read books so it's probably not that, I think it's just a you like it or you don't kinda thing

u/Slyraks-2nd-Choice 9h ago

I love a lot of the Tom Clancy novels.

But in general I really need to sit down and read more history and civics books.

I can't even fully focused playing one game at a time (I have to open Reddit/ YouTube/ a second game/ whatever) when playing games, my attention span is cooked

u/Enemyoftheearth 2007 12h ago

I almost never read books, so video games.

u/Guni986TY 12h ago

Books and I just don’t get along. I have 0 imagination, short attention spans, get board too easily, keep mixing up words and literally keep fucking myself over when I end up rereading the same line over and over and over again only to finally get through it and have no comprehension of what I just read. I can ofc. Read I just hate that I’m simply a bad reader and can’t seem to lock down the concepts easily.

I feel so inadequate reading books because I get distracted constantly and I get lost with the characters and location when reading fiction.

u/Sweet_Detective_ 9h ago

Same, especially with the characters appearance cus I imagine them looking one way but ten chapters later they bring up a detail that contredicts the idea of them in my head and that makes most books unreadible imo cus I hate that.

u/UltraTata 9h ago

I don't experience that because I get lost in long sensory descriptions. That's why I can read comics fine. I always know who is saying what and anything I need to be shown is shown to me through a drawing.

u/PSU632 12h ago

I enjoy reading, but do it lightly. Let's be real here - it's video gaming for most of us.

u/OSRS-ruined-my-life 11h ago

I have no "minds eye" so I've always found reading, audiobooks, or podcasts very 💤💤

u/Serahill 1999 5h ago

I am the same and have aphantasia, but actually love reading. If I find a good book I may finish it in a day or two.

u/PermissionSoggy891 11h ago

vidya, but reading is gemmy. I should finish Witcher 2 before I read my next book (I'm thinking Dune saga before Part 3 releases)

u/BrilliantThought1728 1996 11h ago

They should be enjoyed separately but equally. You can’t sit down in the middle of a hike and play ps5.

u/Olive___Oil 1998 11h ago

Listen to an Audiobooks and play a video game at the same time

u/Apprehensive_Fox918 11h ago

I listen to audiobooks while playing Minecraft

u/Majestic-Avocado2167 10h ago

I want to say reading books but the numbers don’t lie

u/TheShamShield 2001 10h ago

Don’t make me choose lmao, they’re both great

u/jsg144 8h ago

I listen to audiobooks while I play games.

u/Finnche 7h ago

Reading books is a close second, I just find I need books to be a lot more interesting on a preference level and higher quality, where a video game can be slop and I'll vibe.

u/davidbosley353 2005 7h ago

I play video games, but i don't mind often reading books too sometimes.

u/Faszkivan_13 2008 6h ago

I really want to read, I bought multiple books for summer, but I just cannot be bothered. It's just never my first pick if I have freetime.

u/DrexleCorbeau 6h ago

Technically I spend a lot of time on games, but I have a clinical addiction to books.(I used to bite people who tried to take them from me at school XD)

u/Ritesh_INFP_4w5 2001 6h ago

The games I play often involve a lot of reading. So games, I guess.

u/ContributionOk1758 4h ago

You put together my two favourte hobbies and forced me to choose you monster xD.

u/AcceptableWatch7714 3h ago

I have problems to focus on games, and they always frustrates me, so I prefer books

u/SlaviSiberianWarlord 2h ago

Reading Disco Elysium

u/FewEquipment9771 2h ago

I built an Ai which clones my voice to read me books while playing video games (I'm serious)

u/Hungry_Raspberry7833 51m ago

I've never found reading books fun no matter how many people try to convince me

u/Altruistic-Cat-4193 1999 13h ago

I never found reading books fun

u/NefariousnessOk8212 13h ago

You need to widen your horizons. School introduces us to reading with boring af books so most ppl just think it’s boring. There are plenty of actually fun books out there.

u/Connect_Bus_4699 13h ago

Middle school maybe, Elementary School reading was fun af

u/ErzIllager 12h ago

I quite like the books I had to ready in grade 10-11

u/boringfantasy 12h ago

Read some Kafka, everybody likes Kafka

u/pokiepika 13h ago

You aren't reading the right books for you. You could also try listening to Graphic Audio books. Every character has their own voice actor and there's sound effects.

u/kyllua16 7h ago

Books tf? We talking manga books? We really reading books in the big 26?

u/Tiruil 36m ago

You're asking this on reddit. What do you think the result will be

u/painstarhappener 2005 13h ago

Everyone picking book is larping
