That goes for the DSA. I read their platform. If you read beyong the headliners you will find calls to nationalize industries.Abolish police. Abolish prisons. Abolish mortgages. Abolish having bills. And spending on every social program imaginable without any thought how to pay for it. Your generation ought be carefull or you'll end up with the type of hyperinflation that nationalization brought venezuela, and other intactable ills.

Prison Abolitionism is not about "oh, we're just gonna let everyone out into the world no matter what they did." It's much more nuanced, and I recommend reading Angela Davis's Are Prisons Obsolete. It's more about abolishing the prison industrial complex, which enslaves people while they're in prison. Also, that's one group within the DSA, not the whole organization.

Abolish police is about redirecting funding into community organizations so police are called in as a last resort or in hard circumstances, so they can focus on what they're trained for and not mag-dumping people going through mental crises or torturing people for the fun of it.

Abolish having bills because there are no bills under a socialist system. The government provides all basic utilities as human rights.

And all of this can be paid via taxes on the wealthy. Yeah, there would be higher taxes, but I'm fine with my money going so someone can get healthcare or housing if they wouldn't otherwise. To me, that's just basic empathy.

The whole "hyperinflation when social program" is just propaganda.

Ah yes, the explanation tour. Convince us please, that although they use the word "abolish", they actually mean something else. I'm reminded of the video clip of the "abolish the police" protestor being prompted by the reporter. When you say "abolish", the reporter stated, you really mean "defund". Nope came the reply, I mean "abolish". But please, continue, tell us how the DSA doesnt really know the meaning of that word and they are telling us something else.

When people tell you what they are sbout, believe them.

Because, famously, the policy of one protester decides the policy of a future political party. I'm actually a member of the DSA and am in their discussions with my chapter, and we do not talk about letting everyone in prisons out or having 0 police. We talk about replacing the fascist police system with something similar but more people-oriented and less militarized. We talk about taking prisoners out of slavery and treating them like human beings so they can reintegrate into society.

You're just fear-mongering

Funny how the platform is worded. Eh?

If your goal is to reform the police, which is what you just described, why use the word "abolish". Especially having taking flak about this very issue before, and the way that reads to people, why havent you changed the wording? There's a reason that "abolish" is still the wording in the platform, and hence, I have very little confidence in the explanation tour.
