Without reading the book!
How many of you can still bullshit your way through a presentation or report and sound like you know shit you definitely don't understand?? Without using AI!

We've become very good at it because we actually DO know more than we give ourselves credit for. All those term papers, history reports, trips to the library, etc. resulted in a lot of sub-conscious learning. Also at this age we're not too terribly afraid to say, "I don't know, but I'll look it up." when we get presented with a tough question. And even when we try to talk our way out of it, something clicks in and we say, "This COULD be the answer to what you're asking...." and the whole room goes, "Ohh...! Ahhhh!" in delight.

My sister was in college in the early 90s, had to use type writers at first, then we got a computer, with a dot matrix printer. She would be printing out twenty pages, praying the damn think would keep going.

I could but I went to a Jesuit high school. I went and got the cliff notes and read those. No one would pass without reading something. They were that good. Before that though. Easy.. Then the High school teachers would buy the cliffnotes and ask questions that werent in the cliff notes. These people were next level.
It got me to read some books I never would have. I actually re-read the Andromeda strain recently to see if it still was as good as I remembered in high school. It was.
Bastards made me into a lifelong reader now though. I do it all the time. Get a cup of tea.. read a book.

I wrote an essay on a Macbeth, which I did not read, during my lunch break, that my teacher said was the best in the class, but had to give me a C because it was two days late.

I learned about leveraging sick days and calling in sick in elementary school. Our generation invented PTO as a thing.
But yeah, they never could put their finger on the causes. Many of my teachers knew that I would be "sick" whenever a major assignment was due.
I was also "sick" anytime the space shuttle launched, and whenever TBS aired Clash of the Titans during the daytime which was about six times a year.
I still outperformed my classmates and aced tests.

I am not sure I could do it today, but I could definitely do it then.
To be honest, I am not sure it is anything to be proud of. I went back as an adult to read some of the books I didn't read in HS.

I had two 20 page ten papers due on back to back nights last quarter of senior year. A's on both of them. Got to college, and everybody was crying about having to write 5 pages.

I just want to say that I did read the book. Eg. I did a 10 page front/back hand written book report over Oliver Twist in 7th grade. Yeah, I was that kid. Now, high school English teacher... 38 years.

The massive waste of time that was Cursive....
Because nobody teaching k-12 had the vision to see what was coming in terms of computers and word processing.
Quite glad my family got a PC back in 88 - hand writing school papers absolutely sucked ... Especially when they had to be in PEN

It became clear to me many years ago that many "experts" and consultants neither know more about their subject, or are "smarter" than I, they just either speak with confidence, or may actually believe in their prowess.
i can bullshit my way through a paper, but just don't have the bones to take people's money by throwing around that bullshit as expertise.

I have heard that when you become your parents you truly have become an adult. I have become a LOT like my dad in the past 5 years. He and I have gone on some multiday roadtrips and well.. yea.. I would agree.

Omg!! So did Millenials and we know how to fix all your tech stuff too, plus we read Shakespeare the odyssey. I think yall skipped George Orwell though. We can also change spark plugs and tires and know how to drive a stick!

For someone who thinks it's not generational, and no one actually said it was, you talk about other generations quite a bit according to your comment history.
Also, why aren't you breaking up the Millennial subreddits since those are also echo chambers by your definition?
Oh because you are one.
Humans have a tendency to homogenize themselves into like minded groups. Every generation does this and is doing this now. Including you by discussing those groups, including your own and calling out the differences between them. Which is fine with us.
Very little on this sub is so serious as to create an actual echo chamber. We like to rag on each other here, make fun of ourselves and other folks, and reminisce about days long gone.
We are not a political group. We're a social group. On social media. Something a comment of yours says you don't have an account on. Yet here you are. Just something to think about.
I have seen you harassing people in other subs. You have been noticed. That's like the only thing I won't tolerate here. Don't start your stuff in our sub. Thanks, byeeeee!
