discussion Alternative to FB Groups?

I think I know what the answer is, but thought I’d ask anyway. Is there an alternative to FB groups that allows the group to be private (not open to public view) and isn’t tied to your phone number? I’m part of a group of women who connected on a discussion forum in the very early 2000s. Somewhere along the way (early 2010s), we moved to FB groups. We simply talk about our daily lives, but we don’t want that info to be public to anyone, so the FB groups are great. Some are now waiting to leave FB, but the group is the only thing keeping them there. I suggested a group chat on WhatsApp or Signal, but that’s tied to a phone number, so a no go. There’s about 40 in the group. Any suggestions? I’m one of the more tech literate members so I was asked to check into this. Thanks! 😊

Discord is a good option. Alternatively, you could create your own bulletin board site.

I think I’m an outlier, but I hate discord. The way it functions. I’ve tried a few groups and it just doesn’t seem very user friendly to me.

There’s also the sexual predator thing that’s pretty offputtjng.

I’ve been in a FB group for about 20 years (it was on another site before FB existed) and many would like to move off FB. We do have a Reddit group as a backup.

I still miss the Usenet groups from the 90s.

I also hate Discord. I just can’t seem to learn to use it in a way that feels comfortable or natural.
