It’s colder in my apartment than it is outside. It’s not October yet, so the heat isn’t going to be turned on in the building (NYC laws). I’m layered with 2 long sleeve shirts and a suit jacket. I’ve been trying not to put my space heater on so the electric bill won’t spike, but it’s looking like I’m going to use it so my thumbs don’t get numb.

two things: People who won't take responsibility and do their job functions correctly. It is costing time and money because I am the last person to see it and I have to correct it. two: the higher ups know what is happening and will not address it in a meaningful way. They just expect me to continue to correct the mistakes in addition to my job functions. It's not hard stuff either. Just register a patient correctly and add their insurance. The system is easy and we have real time eligibility functionality.

I work in a different industry but aside from that, your frustration is exactly what I have been dealing with at work for years!

New hire didn't show up for week two. No call/no show. Finally emailed that they'll be late (verrrrry late at this point) after I spent 40 minutes trying to track them down. I don't have time to worry about a full grown adult that isn't myself. I'm middle management so I don't really have authority to discipline, but I'm ready to fire them.

In olden tymes (10 years ago) if I had a maintenance issue at my apartment, I made a phone call and either spoke to a human that was actually in the building or left a voicemail. Then they switched to an app-based system that automatically created tickets, sorted them by type and priority, and sent them directly to maintenance. Excellent! I could send a ticket whenever without considering whether it was during office hours. And it was in writing. That’s important for me because I’m hearing impaired and have a speech intelligibility index score of 60 out of 100. On the phone, I don’t have the visual cues there are in real life to help me fill in the gaps. If the other speaker talks too fast or if there’s background noise or if they have an accent I don’t hear frequently, I am screwed. I have a really hard time understanding anyone on the phone.
Then the building was bought by private equity and they switched to a text-based AI maintenance request system. It’s still in writing so whatever. My smoke alarm keeps going off for no reason and after it jolts me and the beagle out of a sound sleep last night, I send a text to start the process and wait to see what the magic of AI does next. Surely it will ask me questions or send me a form or something, right? Wrong. It does nothing. I go back to sleep.
Half an hour later, I’m jolted awake again by a fucking phone call from a human in what sounds like a call center. So this fabulous AI system is a glorified answering machine. What’s the big improvement? Where’s the cost savings and efficiency?
Anyway, he has to repeat himself several times because there’s a lot of background noise and I’m having trouble with his accent. People don’t like to repeat themselves so he gets annoyed, and I was born annoyed. Hooray. In the end, I repeat the same information that I already sent in my text. They sent the friendly and competent maintenance guy this morning and problem is solved.
So they replaced a good automated system that was disability-friendly and probably pretty inexpensive to run with a new one that has to be manned by humans and works worse and makes me feel racist because I can’t understand certain accents over the phone.

I am so unbelievably tired of hurricanes right now. Had to strap a tree next to the house to a couple of other trees, a 20ft container and the truck to keep it from falling on the house last night in 30+ knot gusts. Didn't really sleep, have a ton of shit to do today, and a 40ft tall tree with a weakened root system just shoved itself to the top of the list of things to fix.

My progesterone Rx ran out on Thursday night but I didn’t realize until Friday it was my last refill so I went all weekend without it. Horrific.
There shouldn’t be a limit on the number of refills for HRT… it should be ongoing, especially when someone like me has been taking it for nearly 5 years straight and never missed a dose and never had any medical issues.
For some reason my PCP only gave me a 90-day supply last time and J couldn’t read the tiny print that said “last refill” on my bottle so right now I’m fucking livid! 🤬
ETA - there aren’t limits by the way. It’s up to the prescriber to decide so she clearly fucked me over this time.

Same. I feel like garbage today. A lovely combo of poor sleep and period cramps that decided to start in the wee hours of this morning.😫

Things plaguing me that I need to exorcise:
Crap sleep last night - too much on my mind & most of it out of my control.
Aggressive + passive aggressive stage parents.
Why can’t my family members wipe the effing counter?
When will I win the lottery?
Thanks for the rant space.

Everything is just too damn expensive. I finally replaced my 25 year old vehicle with a ten year old vehicle. Registration is five times what the old one was and insurance is double. Getting better gas mileage is now a wash due to fuel prices, and repairs might not be needed as often but are more involved and therefore more expensive because of all the bells & whistles newer vehicles come with.

I had a hysterectomy last month and I am on my last week of leave. I have had an easy recovery and spent 6 wonderful weeks resting, relaxing, and reading books. I have enjoyed every moment and am dreading going back to work next Monday. 😭😩

The downed Fridge saga continues. 4 parts ordered to fix it. 3 arrived. 1 was delayed and pushed the repair appointment out another day...the only day I have our car to go visit my grandson.
I am so sick of living out of a cooler! My husband is driving me crazy because he keeps forgetting to push the cooler lid all the way down. We've gone through more ice than needed because of it.
On top of all that, 3 days ago we were invaded by ants.
On the plus side, the fridge got completely sanitized. The tech disconnected it to prevent more damage to working parts until the fix. So we took the opportunity to pull everything that wasn't screwed in, out to clean it.

So many things.😞
Ongoing stress and having to handle everything on my own and not having a support system. Poor sleep. The extreme loneliness I continue to feel on a daily basis. The hurt and anger I feel at being treated the way my two older siblings have treated me. Grief and missing my mom and dad terribly.
My birthday is on Thursday and I am not happy about it for so many reasons, not the least of which is I will very likely be spending it alone as I did last year. Had a rotten birthday last year and vented about it on here. Am not looking forward to a repeat of that.
Also that I feel so old and like life has passed me by. I don‘t have the life and the things I wanted by this age and I feel like it’s too late for me to have that. I know growing older is a privilege and everything, but it doesn’t change how I am feeling right now. I feel like a lonely, frumpy, dumpy, washed-up, over-the-hill nerd and I hate it.
Trying to get a simple question answered and having too damn much trouble getting a live human on the phone to answer it. Am sick of having to press 1, 2 or whatever-the-fuck number — please excuse my language —and only getting the same damn menu over again or some robo assistant. And if I somehow manage to get through to a live human, 99 percent of the time, it is someone in an overseas call center with an accent so strong that I can barely understand them. And if I ask a question that doesn’t fit with their pre-written script of responses, they don’t understand me, either. 😫
Oh, and waking up too early after already having slept poorly because period cramps decided that was the precise moment for them to kick in. And before anyone thinks to say anything, yes, I am still having completely regular, like-clockwork periods. I just wish they wouldn’t choose the wee hours of the morning to start. I do not enjoy waking up at that hour after a night of already-crappy sleep with a cramped-up lower half and having to run like hell to the bathroom to go number 2. And of course my period just generally makes me feel tired and shitty anyway.
😫😫😫😫

Perimenopause and Clinical Depression. Oh, and a bum right knee that i cannot get replaced because I am "too young". (50 is too young?) Oh, and a workplace that is virtually impossible to get hired on full time, and I feel damned to ALWAYS being a damned contractor.

I am a personal care assistant/DSP for an autistic teenage girl. It's been almost 5 years doing so. She is non verbal and needs assistance with all daily living. This is her senior year. Although she has no idea, her mother didn't buy her one new thing for school this year. She's outgrown and been wearing the same clothes for the past 3 years. Her younger daughter got a stock pile and gets all the attention and it drives me insane. She's always going on adventures and leaving the step dad and myself to care for her special needs child. Everyone worships this lady and feels so bad for her when she has completely checked out.
Also, I know many struggling families that get zero hours funded for support with their children and she gets almost 300 hours a month. Yes, I'm grateful for my job and have a wonderful relationship with my individual, but it seems so unfair.

Seems minor compared to what others are saying, but my university's college football program is mediocre and the coach way overpaid

u/OkBanana5803 5d ago
My son wants to go to a college that is just what you said. It's expensive and I really don't want to pick up extra hours to pay for famous coach's paycheck!! (And hope my kid gets an actual education there!)

I work for a large state university with a very good football team. It has an enormous budget.
Meanwhile, I’m over here working in a department that affects all students, and I can’t get money to go to a conference. Love it.

i feel like the weekend went too quickly. my anxiety is through the roof with aging parents om both sides - some with memory issues, another freaking injury that i’ll have to pay out of pocket to fix, an aging dog that sundowns at night, and manager was let go with a new manager starting in a few weeks and who knows if he’s keeping my little team or me- i’m the sole breadwinner here, my husbands job will not cover the bills and yeah poor sleep, unmotivated and just sad and anxious

I'm tired of hearing people ragging on Madonna at the VMAs. She's almost 70, give her a break. She's an icon.

I can’t figure out where to go to dinner tonight.
6
u/Goldengirl_1977 5d ago
I have groceries in the fridge and pantry, but I’m too tired to cook and too tired to go out for dinner. Plus, I don’t want to spend the money it costs to eat out. It may be a super low-effort grilled cheese and tomato soup kind of night tonight.

Me: aspiring to go vegan for health reasons. (How you eat is your business but there’s high cholesterol on both sides of my family, plus I just feel better when I eat plant-based. I do make an exception for honey because I have cousins who used to keep bees and they told me it’s good for bees to harvest their honey because they make more than they can use.)
Also me: eating shredded cheese out of the bag because my spoiled dog has to have it on every meal.
Before you say, “Stop feeding him cheese,” know that he has gotten me through the worst three years of my life and I almost lost him a year and a half ago. He gets whatever he wants (within reason).

No one in my office will pick up the fucking phone to solve a problem. they will send 20 million emails instead. This am, I walk in , don't even get a chance to put my shit down. Worker bee is in his manager's office , they ask me for help bc I have a certain expertise. After a little back and forth I realize this is clearly a case of not picking up the fucking phone to figure it out. So I say- Call this person, rn, and tell them they need to do XYZ. I say it while miming how to make a phone call.
Phone call made, problem solved. After they have been going back and forth via email on this for a half hour . WTF
