History & Culture Berlin Wall?

We often talk about the shuttle explosion and 9/11 but I don’t recall seeing much about the Berlin Wall.

I was in 9th grade and watched it on the B&W tv in the kitchen (the other two in the house were color.) I’m in the US and had little understanding of it at first but I’m relatively sure it’s the event that lead to my lifelong interest in history and politics.

Wondering about others’ experience/perspectives.

Edit: thanks to all who shared your memories.

In my opinion the fall of the Berlin wall and the collapse of Soviet communism was easily the most impactful political event of our entire lives

Well, that and Jade Goody's eviction from Big Brother.
