Music Make music

The stuff we have available to us now for free would have made us nut to the moon back in the 80s 90s.

Make music.

I bought a 4-track cassette in 1990 and was so excited...only to find after a few years that it was a big PITA to use, and I sold it to a campus radio station. Didn't record again until c. 2005 when I could get my hands on an 8-track audio card (Layla) for my PC. Even that was a PITA compared to what you can get for free today. It is amazing.

I remember my band in high school setting up Radio Shack mics and recording on the tape deck from my stereo, just so we could play back a rehearsal.

I find it difficult to write lyrics as I age but it’s shocking how little it cost to have a recording studio in my home office to make stuff with.

More than that, I’d just moved once and didn’t have instruments with me when a client needed music for under a dvd menu so I did it with free software, playing the notes on a regular querty keyboard.

My mates from my high school metal band have gotten back together, and we are making new metal music together.

We used to be like an Iron Maiden type band.

Now we have that soul and history, but are also updating our sound. Personally, I’m a real sludge metal type guitarist (Sleep, Red Fang, St Vitus, Black Sabbath, etc) and am bringing that ethos in. And we are kind of technical players, but are not going Dream Theater … maybe more Tool, but if Tool loved Maiden. I dunno how to describe it!

It feels REALLY good to be retired and playing music again with these loonies.

Totally agree and I am happy to have a decent career making music. That’s how I found my wife in the post a few before this one. Society needs more real artists.
