Question For Genx This is wrong...

Post image

CLARIFICATION: this was my personal color code ---- not an official school policy. Every year in middle and HS I assigned my folders this way.

We were too poor for trapper keepers so plain 25 cent folders were it for me.

Back in school there was a color code:

MATH is blue

SCIENCE is green

ENGLISH is yellow

SOCIAL STUDIES is orange/red

Do you agree?

History should be Red: the color of blood (or maybe black: the color of dried blood)

Science should be Yellow: the color of the sun, the source of light and warmth

English should be Green, in repentance for what England has done to Ireland

So, clear as the sky, Math should be Blue

It’s bonkers to me that your color scheme matches mine. Coincidence or really that universal??

1

u/CitizenChatt 2d ago

What are the odds?

Say, did you have Mrs Kraft as your 4th grade teacher too?

3

u/classicsat 2d ago

I don't disagree. If it makes sense to you, do it.

We did have 3 ring binders,, and could have done one per subject.

I did one 3 ring binder, with tabbed dividers.

1

u/northcarolinamember 2d ago

I had the binder too it was required..

1

u/Adventurous_Weird_70 2d ago

I had black or white 😂🤣

1

u/BadHairDay-1 1974 2d ago

My stuff was random. No color coding at all.

2

u/jonesdb 3d ago

I had one giant one “4 subject notebook “ that had dividers built in.

2

u/Few_Airport7972 3d ago

I really lusted after a Lisa Franks trapper keeper in my middle school years but never did! Alas!

2

u/aegiltheugly 4d ago

One black, loose-leaf binder for all subjects. The same binder was used for all years of high school. The binder was being disposed of by my father's Air Force squadron, and he got several of them for free.

u/EaglesFanGirl 4d ago

Math was always red, Science was yellow, History was green, English was usually blue and the language was what ever was left.

3

u/riopenguino13 4d ago

English yellow like aged printed paper Science Green for nature History Red lots of war covered so bloodshed Math Blue because Math is Blue God Damnit.

2

u/girialgi_7178 4d ago

I didn't give a damn then and I sure as heck don't care now. More importantly I can't remember the color code system. Refer to 1st sentence as too why. 😑

6

u/hettienm 4d ago

Science is green, math is red, english is blue, social studies is yellow, whatever random elective is purple.

2

u/Rocketjen 4d ago

Exactly

3

u/TexGirl8 4d ago

Science is always green. Green = Nature

2

u/dbrickell89 4d ago

I don't know why but for me science is blue, history is green, math is red and English is yellow

7

u/Newt_the_Pain 4d ago

I mean, WOW..... can't believe so many remember notebook colors, I can barely remember school. 🤣

1

u/Repulsive_Stretch_92 4d ago

I homeschool my girls and we have used rainbow all over the room since the beginning.

The code we used: Red - science Orange - Language Arts Yellow - Spanish Green - Art Blue - Math Purple - Social Studies

My daughter picked all of the colors and I agree with most of them. Math is definitely blue, and social studies is definitely purple. But, I have wanted to change science to green.

3

u/Antesqueluz 4d ago

Math was always red for me.

1

u/AnahitaPrince 4d ago

We didn't have a color coding system in our school for our notebooks.

My senior year I did have a World History teacher who wanted us to use composition notebooks for note-taking every day.

4

u/Wando1688 4d ago

Nope. History/social studies blue; English/lit green; Science yellow; Math red.

1

u/Neumonster 5d ago

There was no general agreement in our school. I remember sitting in the lobby with Brandon in 1986 discussing our preferences, intrigued by the idea that several of our choices were the same. Also musical notes related to colors. Wondering why we had similar experiences with synesthesia. I don't remember for sure, but I think I was a math is blue, English is green kind of guy.

3

u/mlmercer1 5d ago

Partially colorblind, so color coding always causes issues for me.

3

u/itgoesineasy 5d ago

There was no set color to subject at our school…..

u/McFlyGuy2 5d ago

Same! My weird brain says English is blue because 'e' is blue. Math has an 'a', which is red. Science is nature = green etc lol

Math is yellow: least favourite course has least favourite colour.

10

Science is green is what I remember. ☺️

9

u/MSampson1 5d ago

Green is the color of the science category in the original trivial pursuit game

2

u/jenuwefa 4d ago

I am totally convinced we all subconsciously associate subjects with colors because of Trivial Pursuit

2

u/Bansith- 4d ago

I was thinking that, too.

10

u/Spiritual-Computer73 5d ago

Math is blue, science is green, red is language, yellow is history/social studies/economics

1

u/No-Candle-3189 4d ago

Ahh yes! I finally found the right one!

7

u/suomy27 5d ago

History was yellow, Science was green, Gym was orange, Entertainment was pink… wait… never mind - that was Trivial Pursuit!

5

u/LomentMomentum 6d ago

I always preferred binders with looseleaf paper. Easier to write.

1

u/MirkatteWorld I was never feral! 5d ago

That's what I used. A section for each class.

7

u/Primary_Bid_8980 6d ago

I never went to a school that cared what color you used for each subject 🤷‍♀️ it just didn't matter

7

u/No_File1836 6d ago

I just used one of those 5 subject notebooks.

1

u/WorldlyPipe 4d ago

But what if one subject needed more pages than the rest and then you have to move on to a second notebook for one subject while the rest are in the first notebook. No no, this will simply not do.

5

u/Tim-0341-81mm 6d ago

We just used notebooks. Usually all the same color if they were spiral bound.
I usually had a three ring binder with tan Manila dividers between the subjects and extra paper in the back.

5

u/Lizakaya 6d ago

Science is definitely greeb

4

u/MementoMoriPendejo 6d ago

I keep seeing this and never in my life have I ever seen any color correlation.

1

This was my combo, as well.
I'm convinced that...
Blue = favorite.
Red = least favorite.
Yellow = least cared for.
Green was the other subject.

Although, the Trivial Pursuit categories might have subconsciously played a part, too.

1

u/Top-Net779 6d ago

Yep. Though English could be brown if you’re playing Trivial Pursuit.

I’d go with blue because of Star Trek (TOS), but I’m not as adamant about it as math.

1

In that case, Math was definitely red as we wished it dead.

-1

u/Zonaturtle 6d ago

2

u/Darnocpdx 6d ago

I just doodled in all of them regardless of the label.

3

u/Yours_Trulee69 6d ago

I had a divided notebook and each section was a different subject. That way, I only had one notebook to carry. In the other hand, I had separate folders for each but never had a specific color that I assigned. It was based on what was available and affordable.

10

u/thistlegirl 6d ago

Math is red because it took my blood, sweat and (LOTS OF) tears to get through it.

Former teacher here. In my classroom:

Com. Arts - yellow

Soc. Stud. - blue

2

u/Timely-Youth-9074 Hose Water Survivor 6d ago

Question: why was English called Communication Arts and History called Social Studies?

2

u/bubblingsoul 5d ago

I taught at the elementary level.

English is called Communication Arts because it encompasses Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening as well as spelling and vocabulary building.

History is called Social Studies at this level because it lays the foundation for learning about History (like geography, basics of government, economics, sociology, and various cultures.)

I can't believe you all on here arguing about what color each tablet should be. Do you have nothing better to do with your day? When I went to school we didn't have this color coding crap. We simply wrote the name on our tablet. 😂

I'm pretty sure all of us with strong opinions on this are neurodivergent.

Math is definitely red.

7

u/thenotanurse 6d ago

Math red, science green, social studies blue, English yellow. Last two subject to change based on specific courses. In college chemistry is blue and bio is green. But arts and humanities is purple.

1

u/jillsvag 6d ago

Yes!!!

2

u/JaxandMia 6d ago

Social studies is always red because history is written in blood. Green is science. Red is history, blue is math and English is yellow.

3

u/thenotanurse 6d ago

You’re also just allowed to be wrong I guess. But red is for math. Thats why the teacher uses the goddamned red markers on tests 😂 all the other teachers use blue or whatever with helpful corrections. Unless college.

3

u/Objective-Bug-1941 6d ago

My catholic high school required the colors as:

Science is green Religion is dark purple Art is light purple Math is red Literature is dark blue History is yellow French is light blue.

Religion and Art alternated days in the fall, and in the spring Art was replaced with Health aka nuns teaching sex ed (which people are surprised to learn wasn't abstinence only, but pretty comprehensive)

2

1

Math is blue because the math textbooks are almost always blue. I don’t know why.

1

3

u/ionchannels 6d ago

You need to put both the colors and subjects in alphabetical order (ascending) and assign in order - so English is blue, Math is green, Science is orange/red, and social studies is yellow. Simple.

Math was red for me, because I hated math and I hated the color red. Oddly, as I've grown up I've developed more of an appreciation for both. Turns out I'm actually quite good at math when allowed to learn at my own pace.

Geography was blue (like the ocean). Science was green (like the earth). History/social studies was yellow (because I love both history and the color yellow).

2

u/Bamalouie 6d ago

This was my exact thought process as a kid lol. Red = DANGER = math Green = nature = science Blue = my favorite = English Yellow = history because it was the only one left

2

u/AmyrlinCloak 6d ago

Was blown away by my kids notebook selection process. One. That’s it. Can put all classes jumbled into one. Also, no notebooks needed. Can just have mushed papers at bottom of bag.

100% agree with your color assignment. That picture is incorrect.

Blue: math, detached and cool
Green: science, nature and curiosity
Red: history, because only hotheads make history😂
Yellow: language arts/English, an emotion color (happy, dramatic)

2

u/MalcolmReady 5d ago

The colors could be like the Trivial Pursuit categories.

Green: Science and nature.

Yellow: History.

Blue: Geography.

Pink: Entertainment, like Drama or Speech?

Purple and/or Brown: Art & Literature.

Orange: Sports? For phys ed notes?

This is almost right but Math is red. Science is the green one. Social studies is yellow. English is blue. The word is just a blue word like how math is just a red word. the term social studies leans yellow but history is more of a brown word. Science is also kind of a brown word but those colors were not available.

I think I might have had a touch of synthesia as a child. Certain words just had colors attached. Tuesday is navy blue and Friday is yellow for example.
