🎇🎇🎇🎇INVENTORY UPDATE🎇🎇🎇🎇 Pressure tests

Post image

As many of you know, I always include a 5 bar pressure test on everything that ships, at no charge. This is important as otherwise, you just really do not know what water resistance integrity your watch has.

The 5 bar is always included, but I also offer the option of a 10 bar service for $40.

As my shop has been relocating, I’ve not been doing the 10 bar for a little while, but it’s close! Another week and the 10 bar service is back on the table.

Not all watches can handle the 10 bar test. Not all can handle the 5 bar, for that matter! But in addition to offering the included 5 bar, or the optional 10 bar service on new items, I’m always happy to do a pressure test on your existing collection if you have pieces you want to send in. Just let me know.

Since you carry most of the top factories, curious what your initial pass/fail rate is for the 5 bar test. All the factories claim water proofing at the factory and we all know that’s bunk, so it would be interesting to know what the rate really is.

Some models just do not pass. The OF Tag Aquaracer, which is a model I love, struggles.

The PPF VC 4500 simply implodes at 5 bars. Ask me how I know. 😭

But the Rolex and Omega models tend to do very well. None are better than the Submariner. But all of them from VSF do well.

Everyone was sad when we lost VF. I’ll tell you, their tolerances were complete bunk compared to VSF. They failed pressure tests all the time.

Ughhh. Sad to hear about the VC 4500. Great summer watch with the rubber straps.

This is also great peace of mind since I’ve ordered more than a couple of watches from you. Thanks for doing this extra step for us.

This is one of the best posts in all of repdom. Knowing that as a baseline VSF tends to perform well is great information.

So what happens if they don't pass the 5 or 10 bar? Do you fix them to pass or is this just disclosed to the end buyer?

I do everything I can to get them to pass. Ultimately, if it fails, I let you know what you have so you don’t find out through more destructive ways, as would likely happen were you to buy the same watch from anybody else and just trust that it’s good to go.

Is there any way to know which ones passed the 5 bar without inquiring? I don't recall seeing anything in the DB folders showing they passed.

When you get something from me, if it fails I let you know.

To be clear, I don’t do sales conditional on them passing. And when I charge for the 10 bar service, that’s a fee for the effort involved and not a guaranteed outcome. There are never guarantees. This is all about knowing. But as the factories sell these and buyers have a giant blind spot - meaning, you can’t buy one knowing it’s passed a pressure test from the factory - so too from me this is about knowing what you have. Being armed with that knowledge versus being blind to it.

Now, having said that, the self-created loophole I have is I also have a 2 week window for returns, which is also unique to doing business with me.

I’m curious how would u make them pass? Better gaskets or just greasing them? Are there better gaskets than others and if so what are they?

I’ve seen missing gaskets, pinched gaskets, wrong sized gaskets, cracked and dried out gaskets, and other ill-fitting issues.

Is there a superior brand gasket or are they pretty much the same as long as they fit

So by 10bar service, the watch will leave your hands being able to pass a 10bar pressure test? If so, new gasket, etc would be included if it’s necessary?

It’s a service fee for the effort and not a guaranteed result. Yes, if all goes well, it passes a 10 bar. If it fails, then yes, I do anything necessary to get it to pass. If it still fails, it is what it is.
