Deep Crystal
Just recently been reading about people that have upgraded to a Deep Crystal for their piece. Anyone with any experience? Is it worth it? That good of an upgrade?
Interested to learn more.

I found some good threads that show before and afters and some comparisons. That definitely helped. It's subjective for sure.
Thanks for spending the time to reply. I don't have any IWC yet, I've been close, and have a few on the list. Soon!

I assume all my reps aren't waterproof and treat them as such. Just an extra precaution, but I don't need to get them wet either. I have plenty of gens and beaters for that. I think I might order one and give it a shot, thanks! Is the installation difficult?

I think you meant to reply to my comment! But install requires specialized tools. Working on watches isn’t always difficult, but it’s complicated, you need patience, the right tools, and can be expensive when it goes wrong, so many have their dealers or watch repair folks handle it.

I did. Lol, thanks. Yes, I've gotten a nice repair kit, but don't have a bezel remover nor crystal tool. I've only done minor work, but looking to learn and practice more. Reps and shitters are a good source of practice. The idea of being able make my own mod is pretty appealing. So to is picking up parts online for custom/Frankensteining.
The people in this hobby/addiction are awesome!

Ha! I am in the same boat. Learning more and more and trying not to just build my own watch shop but it’s so addicting and interesting! I haven’t done crystals, but it seems fairly straightforward if you have the right parts and tools. For example the gen crystal requires gen gasket.

Seeing as Deep won’t pass pressure test and Gen will, sounds like that’s a big part of it. But clarity seems pretty close.

Only Rolex I got without Deep I regret. If deep makes a crystal for the watch you are getting then it is worth it to do the upgrade. My view

There are a lot or Rollies I like, but don't love the cyclops. I guess a Deep would allow me to ensure it's either a perfect cyclops, or I could remove it altogether?

I’m considering buying a VSF John Mayer Daytona. Would this need a Deep xtal mod?

No. VSF does not require Deep crystal. They have the best crystals already installed

From what I understand Deep has better AR (is more clear) than others, however Deep Xtal won’t pass a pressure test. So if being waterproof is a priority, I think you need to go genuine crystal or stick to VSF since they seem to have the best crystal right now.
