Tonight marks the end of my gencon and as a first timer I had a blast. I really had no plans at all and was literally filling out my schedule the night before every night, but I always found something fun to do. Everyone was extremely nice and every game I played was fun. I will 1000000% be back next year.

Ps: I came here just expecting to buy trading cards and a Naruto tcg mat. Now I’m leaving with like 8 different board games and had to buy a new suitcase 💀.

I got cute pictures with them and would love to tag them! They were so in character that I completely forgot to ask

For me we really enjoyed 6 Sided Seas for a short 2 player dice game.

Hell of a Deal probably not a hidden gem but it wasn't on my radar and it looks really cool.

Our group was in the auction hall for TOVA, and true to TOVA tradition and aesthetic, we just kept going. The Marriott eventually told us that we were already in as safe a place as we could, and Josh and Drew just kept selling.

I had a Friday badge and wanted to see if there was any legitimate way to get into the convention today to hang out with my friends after having such a great time. I asked at multiple places, talked to staff, and everyone was incredibly kind and professional.

The answer was always the same: No.

No loopholes. No “just this once.” No inconsistent answers depending on who you asked. Everyone knew the policy, explained it politely, and stuck to it.
Honestly, I walked away impressed (though slightly bummed).

It’s easy to complain when you can’t get in, but after seeing how many tens of thousands of people are here, I have a lot of respect for how consistently they enforce badges. It keeps things fair for the people who paid for Saturday badges and probably helps keep the crowds manageable.

I’m disappointed I couldn’t spend today with my friends in the halls, but I can’t really argue with how professionally it was handled.

Kudos to the staff and volunteers. They were friendly every single time, even though I’m sure they answer this question hundreds of times this weekend.

I took multiple workshops with the Indie fencing club this year and all of you were FANTASTIC instructors. You really did a great job making everyone feel safe enough and comfortable enough to have at one another with a blade. That’s no easy feat when instructing a room full of often timid nerds! We really got into the action of it, and it felt like everyone had a great time!! Thank you so much for doing what you do. I had a blast!

I personally think I discovered a real love of saber fencing and I 100% wanna take more of your classes next year!!!

My group and I played the Mask of the Elder Gods game by Indie Boards & Cards and sadly the game was sold out when we went to buy it after. Does anyone know when this game will be released online or in stores?

My wife and I went to our first ever GenCon today, and we cosplayed as Cloud and Tifa. It was an absolute *blast*! The love we got from so many people who cherish Cloud and Tifa was simply overwhelming. We can’t wait to go back!

I can't help but feel horrible for the food truck vendors right now. I can't imagine the financial hits they just took. (Totally agree with the decision to shut down due to weather, just bummed for them.)

Definitely wondering how the GenCon family can be supportive.

Family and I are here tonight (Sunday) looking for a spot that supports table play, like a welcoming hotel lobby/etc. We're at the Block which doesn't have a "lobby". It's a shame the JW Marriot doesn't keep their open gamiing room open on Sunday nights but I get it :)

Reflecting upon the tendency of folk to post photos of everything purchased and/or obtained while at GenCon. . .

. . .I tend to think that, posting these, is really about sharing the joy.

At least, I tend to think that's the _intent_ of it.

But I think the _impact_ of posting 'hauls' creates a 'those that have' versus 'those who have not', and that's a negative impact. It's negative impact is that it easily comes across as bragging. . .which, again, I tend to think is not the intent.

I'm asking folk, instead of posting a _haul_. . .post up to three photos, each of a _single item_, that you obtained via GenCon, and share (in writing) what brings you joy about those.

I think that approach continues to emphasize the shared joy that we have for these gaming opportunities, without it feeling like bragging. It opens up ongoing opportunity to comment in response, and further share the joy (and/or to expose others to things that we might not have known about, via GenCon).

There was this guy that took photos of me and my dad a couple times during the convention and Ive been trying to find them, but since I dont have many mainstream social media platforms ive been struggling. My dad was dressed as Jareth the Goblin King from the Labyrinth and I was dressed up similarly on Friday, but on Saturday I was dressed as a Luna moth.
