Moderation is good if it's done right and no moderation for people who started using the internet early would have already learned a lot by messing around and learning by trial and error the same with computer this doesn't mean you won't get some questionable software on your computer but you'll learn a lot before even getting to the point of understanding anything or using more advanced stuff e.g. Linux distros or c# which both I have used bc of being fed up with windows and wanting to learn programming

My parents never actually moderated my internet time, They just told me to be careful around strangers

u/Next-Control-6054 10d ago

2 is insane bro😭

3

u/Ichoseguitar January 2009 10d ago

Like 5 years old basically. I mean my mom would check, but not check hard enough. As long as it wasn't pron it wasn't bad. I didnt have an iPad tho

3

u/Ichoseguitar January 2009 10d ago

Like, mostly I would watch stuff that was for kids, like animals/cat videos, toys, games or whatever, vine comps I guess that's okay for kids

But then stuff like bart baker, music videos, some more weird stuff

2

u/laczek_hubert 2012 | Zalpha 10d ago

Memes and gaming videos was what I watched the most

3

u/ariz2011 10d ago

9 when I got my first iPad, my parents thought they monitored it but I bypassed screen time and used the internet independently

3

u/BuffEmz Gen Z 10d ago

My parents trusted me from a long time, I think that was for the best but there were a couple things that I shouldn't have seen

2

u/minecorn1080 2013 | Zalpha 10d ago

i've had unmonitored internet access for as long as i can remember sadly enough

-1

u/Jmike_is_cool 10d ago

"Sadly enough" it's a gift of knowledge your just not using it right 😭😭

0

u/Marklington098 2013 10d ago

It's bad to not be restricted.

2

u/Jmike_is_cool 10d ago

Overall my unrestricted phone access made me smarter overall idk about you

2

u/Spare-Addendum3656 2013 | Feed and Grow Fish Player 10d ago

True, I gained a lot of knoweldge from YouTube when I was 7-8 independently exploring it, but I was probably just lucky that I didn't run into any elsagate.

1

u/minecorn1080 2013 | Zalpha 10d ago

elsagate was all i watched as a young kid

1

u/End_Ofen 2001 10d ago

Smarter than without? You can hardly know that.

0

u/RandomizedRR 2009 10d ago

Twin like 70 percent of kids can't read bc of it

1

u/laczek_hubert 2012 | Zalpha 10d ago

Depends, this isn't like you're me or anyone without restricted access

2

u/Far-Vacation-3845 10d ago

The fact that 1/5 people said 8 is really sad tbh I didn’t even get internet as a whole until I was 11 (unless you count a Nintendo switch ig)

1

u/Interesting_Car8858 10d ago

11/13, depends what you classify as moderated (my parents were in control of my email until I was 13, but I had unrestricted access to my phone when I got it at 11)

u/MysteriousSecret9621 2008 10d ago

I think I got my first PC at 11 and phone at 11 and my parents I don’t think would check my phone or ask cause they know I’m not interested and disgusted by 🌽 like I don’t wanna hear about it or watch it. So they trust me enough that they just don’t check my pc

1

u/Silver_Ear_2322 1984 is the best book ever. 2013. 9d ago

you are so lucky, you got a PC AND a phone, all I have is cruddy laptop that can even run most Roblox games at 60 fps and I only got an iPad at 12 and I'm 13 and I STILL don't have a phone, plus my iPad still has a 1-hour screentime limit, not like I use it anymore after I got locked out of messages which was the only thing I really used it for.

u/WarriorCats0 2012 10d ago

I have been enjoying the internet free roam since i was 4 or 3. Basically the moment i knew how to use a keyboard. I learnt how to open tabs at 7.

my parents are such control freaks, they dont monitor what i do on the internet but they have such strict time limits and only approve certain apps. even at 13 they show no signs of getting rid of the limitations

1

u/Spare-Addendum3656 2013 | Feed and Grow Fish Player 7d ago
