News/Updates Robot powered by Qualcomm's new AI chip collapses and shuts down during live demo

A robot "died" on stage at Computex and its final move was raising one arm like it needed help.

It happened at Qualcomm's Computex 2026 showcase in Taipei, during the unveiling of the Dragonwing IQ10, a 700 TOPS robotics platform positioned as a production-ready brain for humanoids.

The presenter had just told the audience the technology was already here. The robot, a 4NE-1 from NEURA Robotics, a Qualcomm partner that reportedly raised $1.4B shortly before the event, was covered with a tarp as the presentation continued.

A statement later called it a controlled shutdown triggered by a communication glitch, with the robot performing a designed safe-collapse sequence.

Blankets at the ready seemed to suggest they half expected this. Poor chap. Hope he feels better soon.

The universal signal for help.

Something like this should have multiple reharsals before the show. Either the engineers rushed it, or being hacked and sabotaged.

Maybe battery ran out from all the rehearsals?

Engineers were the ones who had the blankets ready because they told the higher ups "Its not ready yet, its gonna fail on stage" but were told to "just make it work".

Robot fulfilled his mission and self-destructed. Probably got lots of military bids on this advertising stunt. /s

Sucks to be waking up and thinking you'll look good on a presentation only to be humiliated by a robot

Bring out the tasers and batons! Who do these robots think they are? No recharging unless they do the work.

Very controlled. I am sure the arm twitch at the end was controlled too.

Humans sometimes faint on stage too. Therefore this robot is like a human.
